IAM Driving Assessment

What ?
Even less than the £250 that myself and wife currently pay for two cars - comprehensive with tiny excesses on cars worth £40k combined ?
Whatever quote you can prove, they will usually match and then chuck on a sweetener.
Its nice in that you can get the quote from the usual suspect who whilst giving cheap quotes no one with any sense would go near, and they'll match it.
In practice this year my two renewals came in cheaper than i could find anywhere online.
Haven't claimed but i know someone who has with nothing but praise for how it was handled.0 -
Strange, I have always found those insurers who advertise discounts in the IAM magazine to be more expensive"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I too decided after 25 years of driving and having one accident to go on the IAM course, tbh i found it rather tedious, we had some nice drives out but apart from that learnt very little if anything !
I did the final assessment and got a First, which ofc i'm proud of but overall didn't think it was good value and for me felt pretty pointless.
Oh and ongoing membership which again provides little benefit is expensive i think, my insurer even said they offer no discount for IAM members.0 -
The quality varies from region to region. IAM do not regulate the observers who are appointed by the local IAM group. Some are very good, others ........."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Not so sure what is so special about driving in Wolverhampton.
Wolverhampton have "special" traffic lights that ensure you have to stop at every single set, regardless of whether there are vehicles waiting in the side roads.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Do they just turn red when they detect traffic coming or are they like the ones in Swindon that change to red if someone is speeding?I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

As for near misses i wouldn't worry about it, the country is full of people who can barely walk on their two hind legs and grunt, avoiding these fools whether on foot or behind the wheel is now a full time job from the second you leave your home.
Been with IAM Surety for many years, unfortunately Cornmarket quoted almost £50 more than Direct line this year so no longer a Cornmarket customer, this also includes my home building and contents insurance which was also cheaper from Direct line.0 -

I don't head that way any more, but it used to be timed such that unless you were grossly speeding you could not avoid stopping at every single set.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I hope they take into account pedestrians. I hate it when someone in a car thinks they don't need to indicate at a mini roundabout because there are no cars, but I'm about to cross and they take a turn. That's why I always indicate...at 4am in the morning or middle of the day, you can never be sure there isn't someone making a decision based on you not indicating.0
