  • Good Morning chums,

and the sun is out and shining and its very mild today ,just as well as I have a feeling I may be starting a bit of a sniffle this morning ,bit bunged up.hardly surprising as DGS Mikey has been poorly this week. Still I shall does myself up and fingers crossed it won't last too long.

This morning I am off up to Hither Green in London with DD as we want to take some flowers to my DB Davey's grave .I have got some orange gerbera which is the nearest I could find to daisy's (his nickname since I was tiny and couldn't pronounce Davey )

I also have a nice fir wreath that I bought in Dobbies, and we have two artificial white daisies that my son-in-law bought DD and I when we finished the Race for Life back in July.

We are going to intertwine them around the wreath. I will have to have a photo to send to his daughter Marie who lives in Cork, as she can't get over until the New Year.

Bless her she is really grieving for her Dad and her Mum has virtually disowned her (stupid woman ) She is such a lovely lass and has a gorgeous family of children whom my brother adored.

His ex-wife (her Mum ) even though she remarried was very bitter about their break-up and Marie was at her Mums in Cyprus when she heard Davey had died
Her Mum just shrugged and said 'So what ' !!! not what you should say to a grieving person.
But then I always thought her Mum was very odd anyway. She has been remarried for over 40 years to her second husband, as Davey and her split up years ago.
Nasty person IMHO.By behaving like this she has lost her grandchildren if nothing else, and I feel for Marie as she has done nothing wrong, but grieve for her much loved Dad poor soul No doubt about it families can be a real PITA

Right well time to get a wriggle on Hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing

    Cheers chums

    Hi all,
Feeling colder today with a breeze,& quite a bit of rain yesterday. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon/evening with a couple of our friends at the christmas market in M/cr,both train journeys horrendous though and the markets were so busy we gave up around teatime and went to a pub :rotfl:it was raining hard by then anyway. It felt a bit sad too as our friends are retiring to the sun and leave just after New year, they will be visiting as they have family here but our nights out in Manchester will be much less frequent, shame as we really enjoy it and always have a good laugh.Still we hope they have a great time and enjoy life. She has been a nurse all her life and deserves a good retirement.

Just done a big shop ,had 2 vouchers for £5 off, good job!Hopefully will last a bit now.My DB1 dropped off DGC pressies yesterday,I didnt know he was coming but luckily I wrapped their DGS the night before.I've got all DGC stuff now,all shopped out-might ask DSons if they want money instead.I have got the usual socks and boxers so I dont think they'll object too much.
Right better put the rest of the shopping away, remembered to grab some tissues and lem sips as I feel a sniffle coming on too Jackie .Bought some lovely honey at the C markets so will have a good glug of that too.
Hope everyone is ok,and the poorly people are as comfortable as possible.Happy Sunday all xx

  • Afternoon,
First day of new frugal living today as DDad went into his care home yesterday. OH and I have been his carers for 4 years now and it has got to the point with his Parkinsons that we could not manage him safely 24 hours a day. We have now lost a huge chunk of our income as DDad's money from his rented out home will go towards his fees. OH and I have 20 months now before OH draws his pension so we will tighten our belts and have a fun journey of frugality.
I have enough books, yarn and hobby stuff to keep me going, OH has his shed and we have our garden that we will now have time to make use of. I have a trip to Edinburgh Yarn Festival in March but have already bought a cheap couple of night in a Premier Inn and saved £128 in my £2 tin. We have £420 in our £1 jar and penny bottle that we are going to divide between the 2 of us for our treats (choir membership for us both, WI for me and Mens Sheds for OH etc) we are looking forward to the challenge of a very low income and what we can use up and what we don't really need.
Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j

    frugal

DH used to ask me if we were economising and when I asked why, he said "because we are eating better" by that he meant I was making more soups, quiches, bread and rolls as well as large yorkies with fillings, stuffed pancakes etc. Things like homity pie, savoury muffins and stuffed mushrooms were very popular too and very cheap.

I think I picked up a virus on Friday as spent most of yesterday and last night being sick and dizzy so stayed in bed and kept hydrated as much as I could. So glad for the fact that there is a ground floor bathroom next to my bedroom and that I had squash etc in the house and a hot water dispenser in the bedroom for drinks.

Middle dd is coming round tomorrow night so hoping to be well enough to cook by then.

    Thanks for the song Tru,
I'm tired with a capital K here, yesterday it was the panto and babysitting, today I drove to Rugby & back, all I want now is a nana nap.
We viewed a nice little one bed place nearby and put an offer in but it's been refused, still something else will come along.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    I’m home!

Caterina – I may have meant the ‘big blue shed’ – as it’ Swedish and the national colours are blue and yellow I can imagine it as both. Whatever colour it’s hell on earth!

After changing her mind at 7.30 this morning and declaring that she didn’t want to go to D*bbies my lovely Mum then put on her coat at 9.30 as I prepared to leave whilst saying ‘I’m coming with you’ which she says meant that she now wanted to go to D*bbies after all. When I asked what she actually wanted from there she waffled a lot! I got her there and sat in the caf! being serenaded by a dozen pre-school children singing Jingle Bells whilst shaking tambourines and parading through the shop behind a gleeful Santa. All this whilst gagging on the smell of fake cinnamon – I hate it all.

My DM then showed me what she bought after an hour- a tiny wee measuring jug! Of course we had to drop into W*itrose on the way past, despite having spent over an hour there yesterday. Resigned to my fate I again sat in the caf!, texting friends and drinking yet more coffee. I managed to persuade her not to go into Home*ase.

My DM is 88 years old and doesn’t get out too much these days so every chance she gets is a joy to her. Much as it is a pain for me I bite my tongue and let her get on with it. One day it could well be me.

Now I’m sitting by my blazing fire and sipping a very tasty wine. The Christmas tree which has been left for me is bigger than I expected but has a flat side so will sit on the coffee table better than the one I had last year which stuck out everywhere.

Gers I feel your pain! This is madness, the whole caboodle, noise, lights flashing, seasonal junk everywhere. Good idea not to go to the big shed, whatever colour, it must be unbearable!

I hope you really enjoyed your well deserved glass of wine in front of the fire.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I too am really struggling with all the festive carp everywhere. DH put our tree up today - first time in the 25 years we've know each other. I just couldn't face it. I did manage to wrap some presents for the nieces and nephews today. Adults will get a bottle of fizz. Funeral looks like being 30th December so we will go through the motions of Christmas for the sake of the children. Sorry to be gloomy :(
