Thanks all - edited as might have put too much information in OP if any EAs are snooping on this forum. Will go down the solicitor route

Reading the OP and this, I realise now why this information would be useful. We have just moved and our EA has said to us a few times 'offer A has a DIP and a large deposit', Offer A has a DIP but is at the max' etc..... they can use that info to press the right buttons to get more money. Obviously that benefited us as the seller.
I am not to sure that we gave too much info away when we viewed/offered on our purchase, when we viewed, we hadnt even got ours on the market :-)0 -

We do have one or two EAs visiting the forum, even giving helpful answers, but the chance of the vendor's EA reading your post in here and knowing it's you, is probably lower than having a good win on the lottery.0 -
Our vendors estate agents wanted all kinds of information from us. My sister-in-law is an estate agent too and said half of their 'requirements' were unnecessary.0

You got very lucky. Most vendors would consider you unproceedable if you hadn't even got your property on the market....
Yes, I agree, but within a week of viewing ours was on the market (had to wait for the home report to be done, were in Scotland) and then had 23 viewings, 12 of which in the first two days. 5 offers in total :-)0
