Insurance on campervan for hire

I've got the opportunity to buy a vw campervan at a reasonable price and am thinking about hiring it out rather than using it myself.
The sole purpose of buying it would be as an investment. Purchase price is £11,000 for a 1980 pop top - this is a very niche market and vehicles hold their prices.
So my first step is to find out about insurance - any advice much appreciated.

First step is explain to the insurance how your going to vet the person hiring it?
How will you prove that your not giving the keys to a scammer thats going to have it on the ferry to some far off land never to be seen again?

I think you will find it prohibitively expensive for you to arrange your own cover.
Have a look at forums for owners, you may find some advice on their for owners who hire out their camper vans0 -
I would imagine that someone hiring from a one man business would be less careful with the vehicle, than if they rented from a large company with plenty of 'muscle' to chase them over any damage claims.
How do you know that a stranger won't ruin your engine ? This kind of damage would be much more difficult to prove to be their fault, compared with bodywork damage.
Classic car insurance does work out cheaper, but because the owner is likely to take pride in their vehicle and limit its use, but this would not be the case if you hired it out.0
