Hi,
I used to use Alt F4 to close annoying pop ups such as 'make your computer faster - click here' however I've noticed doing this now tends to follow the link:eek:. while I've now changed my security settings to block them completely, I would be interested to know how to safely close them. Right clicking in the task bar seems to be disabled.

Alt-F4 should close the window, assuming that the window is in focus. It may be the case that when you close the window, the website causes a new one to open.
The easiest way to avoid annoying pop-ups, in my opinion, would be to use Firefox in conjuction with the NoScript and Adblock Plus plugins:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/18650 -
It does normally close them, if I'm looking at something like this site, but more and more of the pop-ups seem to have a script that overrides this and follows the link as if you had clicked on it.
I don't get them at home anymore, as my browser settings & security software stop them, but thanks for the links to the ad blockers - I'll put them on my PC at work.
I am really curious as to how they manage to overide it the Alt F4 thing though, and the right-click-close in the task bar.0
