Anyone not managed to pay anything off debt yet?

Hi all, thought I'd ask because I have not really made much of a dent in my debt yet although am still managing to keep my head above water.
The reason, well my house is now up for sale but it needed considerable work doing to it before it was marketed, that cost money, hence not really shifting any debt.
However if and when it sells we can settle our debts and intend not to fall into the trap again.
I have managed to get a little paid off by switching to the M & S &more credit card but overall I don't feel like we've made any significant headway.
When I read some of the diaries on here and how so many are doing so well with so little I feel a bit ashamed because I'm a year on from my lightbulb moment.:o

Yes but the question is, have u got yourself into any more debt? If not then you are definately heading in the right direction hun, plus like you sed the house needed work doing, which will add value to the property so I think youre doing really well, keep it up and I hope the house sells quick!

Well I don't think overall the debt has increased however it's not really going down too much either. Doesn't help that both myself and OH pay mortgage payments, I bought my house before we met and with interest rates and council tax etc, it's been an uphill struggle.
But everything is crossed for a sale soon. Still trying to chip away though, I just feel rubbish that I haven't got any further along though.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Triker we all get like that sometimes hun but I think its the baby steps we take and the attitude change we have when it comes to spending money is the real way to becoming debt free, no1 sed it was gonna be easy but you shouldnt be so hard on yourself, I know how you feel tho, I only had my lightbulb moment 3 months ago, and I feel like Ive done nothing to improve my situation, as we seem to be as skint as the day we started!! Ive got the overdraft which may not seem like much to some but when you think of the interest I have paid on that 1500 being at its limit for nearly 2 years....grrr it makes me so angry!!LBM 29/07/ 07

Well I think you have done well not to increase the debts if you have been doing up the house. It is amazing what all that kind of stuff costs! So don't feel bad.
My debt went down, and then up again, and now is down a bit, so I feel a bit like a yo yo. It is tough to get control of it when as you say interest rates, council tax, utilities, etc, just go up and up. Now they say food will get more pricey because of the floods. IT'S NOT FAIR!Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Re food prices milk, bread and butter/margarine have risen significantly just lately, due to floods pushing up the price of animal feed and other global stuff like super hot summers in produce growing countries (I heard this on Radio 4).
However I have 2 chickens = 2 eggs per day and a breadmaker so I'm a happy bunny.:D
I went to Lidl and panic bought.......erm 4 packets of butter to freeze.:rolleyes:DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08
