Placed on Garden Leave - can i got to the Xmas party?

If this happened to me I would rather spend an evening alone in my garden than surrounded by former colleagues and managers who I have just let down.
You're making assumptions, you don't know that anyone was let down. There are industries where this move is standard, no offence or let down is meant or taken.
OP, personally I wouldn't see the problem (as you could see these people outside work anyway) but I wouldn't attend without someone telling me I could. If you're that bothered about saying goodbye, just email everyone and say it.0 -
To be fair there can be various reasons why an employee would be on Garden Leave, depending on their role and level of responsibility.
I was put on garden leave when I handed in notice as a manager of a travel agent as I was going to a competitor, It was no biggie, I'd got a young family and the new job was closer to home. We parted on good terms and I got a month's extra holiday.
I did not attend the company conference though. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0
