Placed on Garden Leave - can i got to the Xmas party?

I was placed on garden leave on Wednesday immediately after handing my notice in. Nothing was given to me in writing, I was just told by my manager then escorted off site.
I haven't had any contact from my employer since.
My Xmas party is tomorrow night, it is offsite and is a big do with over 1000 people going.
Am i allowed to go? I would like to in order to have a nice night with people i've been unable to say bye to during a notice period. I dont feel like I can ask my employer as I feel they'll do what they can to not let me attend.

I would and stand up and make a big speech about how the company treats its employees.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

I don't see why not. Garden leave is primarily to prevent you accessing company information and passing it on to a new employer. No chance of that off site, so I can't see a problem. Maybe contact your immediate line manager and say you are intending to go and are just running it past them.0

I wouldn't go. For love nor money nor friendships or anything else.
But we don't know the full story of your "garden leave" either.
You could be the employee from hell, or you could be a !!!!!cat.
Edit to say you could be a puddy cat.0 -
Assuming it's an official company event I wouldn't go. The bosses may let it go, but I wouldn't risk the potential embarrassment of being asked to leave.
Either get agreement from your manager or arrange to see your colleagues at a non work event.0 -
You were officially escorted from the premises, they are paying your notice period and you want to go to the party.
You must be pretty desperate to attend a party, stay away. You will be a laughing stock for the next fortinight n the ex workplace.
Especially if you are told you cant come in.......make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Garden leave is very common in some industries, it is no reflection on the person, it is just how it is.0

In short, you shouldnt go, I doubt it will end well. What you do in your own time with ex-colleagues is your business but going to a company event?? I wouldnt anyway.0

Gardening leave usually means you are not supposed to attend work or contact other employees. I don't think attending without permission is a good idea, although you could ask.0

Just wondered why ANYONE would want to attend a works do having been escorted off the premises and given "gardening leave".
Is OP trying to provoke a problem or what?
Easy enough to see your workmates elsewhere I would think.0 -
I agree-stay well away from the Christmas party.
I agree with the above poster; if you're in contact with your ex-colleagues arrange to meet them somewhere else after Christmas/New Year? It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
