is a 3.5kg dryer too small for a 2 person household?

was thinking of buying a small dryer (3.5kg) but is this too small for 2 people or just right? we wouldn't be drying a lot of stuff, just small bits here and there like underwear, bedding, and essential clothes which need drying.

There's no point in buying a small dryer. Your bedding, towels etc will be the same size as if you had a houseful.

    You cannot overload the dryer.

  • Do you need a dryer?

Is the reason for the small dryer option a lack of space?

    What size is your home.

We are a two person household in a 4 bed house.

We have a washer dryer but we very rarely use the dryer function. We have a washing line in the garden for dry weather and in wet weather we can dry almost everything on racks in the bathroom, en suite or landing etc without a humidity problem.

If we lived in a smaller property then we would probably use the dryer more.

A 3.5kg dryer soundsabout as useful as a slimline dishwasher! Absolutely get a normal sized one if you can. Not sure you'd fit a diver cover in one

I think you'd probably get a double duvet cover in there but not a quilt. It depends whether that would matter to you. What is the capacity of your washing machine? If it's 6kg, only half of a wash load will go in the dryer but for me that would be about right as not everything gets tumbled.

A slimline dishwasher is very useful. We struggle to fill our full size one before we run our of cups, cutlery or plates but when we had a slimline one it seemed about right for us.
  • We have a 3kg vented dryer for 2 of us (chosen mainly as it was one of the only small tumble dryers that would fit in the gap we had for it!) and it is absolutely fine. I never dry straight out of the washing machine though, it will always go on the line or if the weather is bad airer in the bathroom for a while, so it might be different if you want to put the whole wash straight from washer to dryer, but find the size is perfectly fine for us. Some stuff won't go in the tumble dryer at all but I usually do two loads of drying per wash, t-shirts and other things that dry quickly together and heavier jeans etc that take a little longer. King size duvet cover fits in fine, as do top and bottom sheets together. Our massive bath sheets also go in no problem, although usually, I will dry them separately along with the hand towels, bath mat etc in each load. I don't think two loads takes much less time that putting it all in together as there is more air around it dries quicker and doesn't crease. Loads better than not having one at all if it is that or nothing! Hope that helps!
  • I use a dehumidifier/desiccant - almost as quick as a dryer when in laundry mode but doesn't damage your clothes.
