Cost of my time?

I recently had a tradesman make a mess of a job he did for me. As a result, I had to replace a brand new carpet and repaint some walls. I suspect this might end up in court, so I want to work out a reasonable estimate of the cost of the repairs.
The cost of the carpet is straightforward - just the bill from the supplier. What I don't know is how much would be reasonable to claim for my time, and what I can claim for. Is there a standard rate that is used for this sort of thing, or do I just make up a number? (I'm not a professional). And can I include my travelling time, as this was a significant part of the cost for me?
Thanks

You can't claim for you're time just your reasonable losses. That's the cost of materials. You're time is not a loss.
Did you give the tradesman a chance to put right the problems?0 -
Can you find out what another tradesman would charge to put right the mess, and use that figure. Plus materials.0

How old was the carpet that needed replacing? How long ago did you paint the walls last?
You can't claim full price of a brand new carpet, only the cost of the old one based on age, so a ten year old carpet is probably worthless, an expensive one fitted six months ago would still hold a lot of its value.0 -
