What is Hamachi?

My HP laptop running windows 10 Edge is running very slow and the fan is constantly on. Have scanned and malwarebited but still no improvement. I've noticed something called Hamachi and having Googled it am rather confused as to what it is and what its doing on my laptop. The kids play Minecraft on Steam has it anything to do with that? I turn Steam off when they are not playing.

It is VPN software but i dont know enough about why it was installed to advise removing it or not.
As for the fan and slow machine, first thing i would do is check all the vents in the laptop carefully to make sure they are not full of fluff.

Does that fan constantly spin up without edge running ? I ask this because you mentioned it in your opening statement

Hamachi is a VPN service from LogMeIn. This particular service is designed for teams, where one system would act as host, and other users would connect to it. Useful in a remote business environment.

It may simply be that Hamachi was bundled in as bloatware when you bought the laptop, particularly if it's a "business" model. It could also be that your kids have used it for some sort of online cooperative gaming. I recall one version of Football Manager didn't properly work for multiplayer, and LogMeIn was a workaround to fix it.

If you don't need it, it's safe to remove.

Why change the past when you can own this day?

Hi, thanks for replies. Yes, the fan comes on as soon as I turn the laptop on even before I've signed in. I've had the laptop for a couple years now and it's definitely something new. I've checked the start up and have 95% disabled, although there is something just sitting there called 'program'. Hamachi just popped up on the taskbar in the past week and having no clue what it was I didn't like to remove it, I've disabled it on start up. The laptop is so slow, typing text takes forever including typing in the search box and pages slow to load. I've uninstalled programmes, ran scan, malwarebites, and checked for updates but nothing seems to help. I have noticed that when first opening Edge the home page takes ages to load then flickers off and seems to reset itself, it's as if the home page is placed on top of the home page.

Please run ADW cleaner and let us know how things stand after that ..

The fact that the fan is going mad before you've even signed in does kind of point to hardware though.

Please check the fan vents for fluff in the first instance

Let us know how you get on :)

Hamachi can be associated with Minecraft, so one player effectively hosts the game for others to join.

Thanks for replies. Will give the laptop a bit of a clean, then try the programme you suggest. I've just had a look at everything running on the laptop and 100% of the disk was being used, there are about 10 different local hosts running, is that normal? Today I'm getting page not responding on every site I visit.

I had an HP desktop that ran at 100% CPU until I removed Avast and just left it with Windows Defender (Windows 10)
