Eon gas electricity and solar panels
Hi everyone
Wondering if anyone can give me a bit of advice as I'm pretty unsure of how it all works!
My mum passed away last November and therefore as it's only me "left" I am now in charge of household bills etc.
There are Solar panels on the house and eon are who the Feed in tariff readings are given to and who I receive payments from etc. My mum was with eon for electricity and gas and it was easier to stay with them when she passed away, I just transferred it into my name.
Anyway, I have received a letter this morning advising the tariff I am on is ending in January and am wondering if now is the time to look for a better deal?
So a couple of questions...
Do I have to stay with eon to benefit from cheaper electricity due to the solar panels as that is who the tariff is through?
Is the best way to find out about better deals to use a comparison website?
Sorry if these questions are a bit silly I've just never had to deal with it before and don't want to spend money where I don't need to.
Thank you

Your generation contract (solar) is independent of your supply contract. You can therefore switch suppliers at will. FITs will continue to be paid by E.oN at the rate set when the PV solar array was registered. You will not get a better solar deal by switching. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thank you. I'm happy to keep the generation contract with eon. Just looking to see if I can get a better deal from someone other than eon in relation to supply.0 -
As @hengus said, your solar panel FIT payments are separate to your household electric and gas contracts.
Just leave the FIT as is with E.ON and use a switching site to compare your domestic electricity and gas supply.
When checking for new suppliers at switching sites, do not just look at dual fuel deals (same supplier for both gas and electricity) but check out separate suppliers too. For me, using 2 suppliers saves money (£60+ a year).
You can check out the feedback on the various companies you are quoted on in this forum.0 -

Hiya hilbil21,
I'm sorry to hear about your mum.
Hengus is spot on, thank you Hengus
You can keep the feed in tariff with us for the Solar panels, then have a look around the comparison sites to get the best gas and electricity tariff for your needs.
The feed in tariff and the gas and electricity are separate.
It's always a good idea to use your usage in kWh when you're doing a comparison as it's much more accurate than £ spend.
The information that you need is on the online account.
If you need any figures or any help, please just ask, it's no problem at all.
Thank you

What Hengus says is correct. We were with EDF for Gas & Electricity when we had the panels installed, but have since switched to E.on and recently to Iresa for electric and Zog for Gas. EDF still pay the FITs payments (very promptly, like I understand E.on do).
If you stay with E.on for gas & electric supply, without choosing another fixed tariff, they will put you on their most expensive tariff. However, even their current fixed tariffs are not good value as they prefer to charge loyal customers more and give a discount to new customers.
It is worth going on a few comparison sites and checking what is the best deal for you. Make sure you check seperate suppliers for gas & electric, as dual fuel tariffs are usually more expensive now.0 -
Yep, I must admit eon are very prompt at paying the fit payments, no problems there. The service they've provided on the electricity and gas side of things has also been great, I just feel the price increase is quite significant if I stay with eon. Certainly doesn't look like it will just be a couple of pounds unfortunately0

Thank you so much hilbil21 for the lovely feedback.
I'm sorry to see you go, but it's understandable that you have to find the right and best tariff for you.
I'm always here to help you, if you need me.
Thank you
