Thanks for your replies
I have decided to wait before washing and get the proper colour run sheets from the shop, even though I am sure the home made ones would turn out fine.
It’s really difficult being patient though when you have a new hobby, amazing shiny new fabric, and the enthusiasm of a five year old with their first ever quid at the Pick ‘n Mix in Woolies :rotfl:
Thanks again!0 -
I know ... my problem is that new projects are always more exciting than the boring old ones you began a month ago. Which is why I've got a skirt that needs hemming and a cardigan that needs a bit of hand sewing ... However I find I'm much more likely to finish clothes than other sewing items, because the are things I've planned to wear and want in my wardrobe.

Finally finished altering my trousers and the t-shirt! T-shirt came out very well. I've finally finished all the mending too. Nipped into my local hospice craft shop to drop some bits off so I just had to have a look round.........and found a lovely piece of red velour type fabric just right for 2 new cushion covers that I needSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Glad it worked - it’s very satisfying when it goes right, isn’t it.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

As we are now in the last quarter of the year (and my sewing is likely to be interrupted by other stuff) I thought I'd review what I've done this year.
I made a blouse, I didn’t love it but I have actually worn it quite a bit – it looks ok under a jacket for work. I made a rather quick cotton top, to a pattern I’ve used before – I was glad of it in the heatwave, but again I don’t really love it, the fabric was a bit stiff although it may soften up with use. I did use bias binding instead of a facing for the first time however, and I’m a convert! I made a dress, the first time for about forty years, and it was a success in terms of the construction and fitting, but I felt I’d chosen a fabric that was too floral. Can you see a bit of a theme emerging here, I don’t seem to be very successful at choosing the right fabric for my makes! :rotfl:
A cardigan followed, that was made from a remnant and worked out quite well, although I want to go back and add bands to the sleeves as the stitched hem isn’t doing it for me. And finally I made a skirt, again out of a remnant – it hasn’t been worn yet as it needs boots and tights and the weather is too warm, but I am happy with that.
I have also: taken up my friend’s evening dress (that took two weekend visits, as there was a jersey inner dress with a beaded outer dress, I couldn’t just cut it because of the beads so that was quite an undertaking). I turned up another friend’s bridesmaid’s dress – and if she can get round to see me, she has asked me to shorten it to mid-calf length so she can wear for another event. I converted a polo-neck t-shirt to a crew-neck for a friend. Another theme emerging, I have done rather more things for friends than I would like!
Currently, I am trying to reduce my fabric stash by making a patchwork quilt – just squares, I have never done patchwork and I’m not going to start anything fancy. It’s used up a lot of fabric that wasn’t going anywhere, I am not sure how it will turn out but anything extra to layer on the bed/snuggle under on the sofa will be useful. How is everyone else getting on - Laura, have you made the Accidental/Deliberate trousers up yet? I was finally able to see your photo above and they look brilliant!

This is probably a tailors question but here goes
Does any one know the name of the cloth that this jacket is made from.

I'd agree houndstooth - I didn't know the expression 'overcheck' but I can see why. Is it wool?Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

Have finally taken the plunge and replaced my overlocker. Will just need to use it and see what difference it makes to my home made clothes. Hopefully they will look more professional than they currently do.0
