I was sitting here in my dressing gown this morning, lovely and comfy and very cosy and suddenly realised that I had made it, last year from fleece, kangaroo pockets, long zip down the front and a hood. I made another one, which I will lend to dd when she stays tomorrow night. Honestly recommend making your own and from fleece, I am glad I didn`t make one from wool, the fleece is lightweight, warm and washable. Dressing gown/housecoat patterns are hard to find, one that has not got a bulky tie
I`ll be ready to commence sewing this spring, even if only making nice padded bags or totes. I have been quietly making cotton braid on my inkle loom, nothing fancy, just two colours but perfect for handles and straps. It has been a very long month, biding time to betterweather0 -
hello Daisy,
Try looking for Elna LOTUS TSP. It's a fab little machine, a real Swiss engineered one,
not a toy in spite of its daintiness! I have had a SP from the same range for a couple of years. Not my main machine that I use for my work doing garment alterations and repairs, but one tha I have taken on holiday! Then a fortnight ago a neighbour and customer brought me another from the range, the ZZ. Think this is the most basic in the range. The TSP is the top of the range I believe.
Mine both do a lovely stitch.daisy_1571 wrote: »Evening all
Does anyone have an elna sewing machine? I'm having trouble tracking down what model I have. It says elna on the front, it says TSP on the front at the top near where it is threaded. I can't find any other marks on it but when I search for it there is loads of elna model numbers but none match TSP without further numbers.
I'm trying to buy more metal bobbins but they seem to be different sizes for different models do want to make sure I get the correct ones.
Thanks.
Swimum I agreed with the ideas posted earlier regarding your student, how frustrating for them but I'm sure we have all done this sort of thing at least once

Hospice shop gave me the contact to get my machine repaired but it rather looks as if its terminal
So glad I didn't pay full price for the bobbins & extra feet for it.
DH says buy a new heavy duty machine - but - I'll only be using it on the odd occasion so would prefer a S hand one - but - would I end up with the same problem? Thank you Kittie and Silvasava, I am off work at the moment with a chest infection so spent quite a lot of time sewing, i have just borrowed a friends machine to finish off a jacket I was altering, I think I will wait to buy a new one after my holiday in April and splash out a bit.
There is a small shop in that does machine demonstrations so I think I will start there.Shady pines ma, shady pines0 -
My woven braid is finished, about 4` long and an inch wide and will go with many of my fabrics. I do feel like making some nice bags now, two fabrics together and maybe a fine padding in between layers. They will make nice christmas presents
I hope you are feeling better fast queengoth0 -
Ha, still no sewing time here, but I picked up a clear plastic box with little dividers in yesterday, in a CS. 'Cross stitcher?' enquired the lady at the till (I assume she was asking about my hobby, not my mood :rotfl:).
I explained my cunning plan - a sewing machine foot in each section, with a picture/description under each one. I find it difficult to identify them at first glance, so I'm hoping this will speed things up.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. haha, great minds, that is exactly what I did, except I numbered the compartments and laminated a small sheet containing numbers and descriptions.0 -
Not sewing - but was approached yesterday to help knit or sew poppies for a display in October. They wants 6000 to represent the amount of men that were killed each day in WW1. I'll go into the craft shop this week & get some wool. I enjoy crocheting in the evening watching the box!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I just popped into to say hello and will subscribe to the thread. I retired a year ago and dug out my elderly sewing machine and have been enjoying making simple things mainly from fat quarters. I was in Aldi today and bought some of their cheap fat quarter bundles. I am aiming to make as many presents as possible this year. I am still very much a beginner but have joined a local sewing group on a Thursday to learn some new skills.0

Oh dear! I succombed to a couple of bundles of FQ at Aldi this morning. Sooooo pretty! At least it's not food to clutter the freezer and fridge! I was good about that!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
