OS Daily Friday 09 December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

I've had no luck finding a tent or an old greenhouse frame. I've got two large wire fence panels (forgot I had them, they were tucked down the side of the shed) so this afternoon I'm going to construct a makeshift run out of them, bamboo canes, chicken wire and netting. The roof will be a large sheet of blue polythene. It'll look ugly, I doubt the neighbours will be impressed :rotfl:

I'm going to town for an hour this morning, I need trainers and I want to look at Christmassy things for a while. On my own, with no distractions. I'll leave my phone at home.

Safe driving Gers - it's not very nice out there.

New window fitted yesterday, should have a new back door today, only the conservatory door on at the moment. Thank goodness it is fairly mild! There are also sockets and the light fitting is up, hoping for more progress today.

The elusive dishwasher is going to be delivered tomorrow apparently, after waiting for about 15 mins on the phone I managed to get through to someone who really couldn't care less, very frustrating. I know there's nothing they can do to make it magically appear but they could at least be sympathetic!

It's the work night out this evening, a meal at a restaurant in the West End, far better than a party night, hoping to be home by about 11. Getting a lift there and back which is a bonus.

Happy Friday everyone, hope the poorlies and worrieds have a better day. Take care. XX

Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x It's DS1's birthday today - this time 20 years ago I was en route to the maternity unit!

Still dark here, damp and mild, heating turned off.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. Boys still in their pits, as DS1 has a days' holiday, him and some friends are going away tonight and staying over in a hotel, they're coming back tomorrow.

Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, HG green beans and peas, I found a recipe for oven roast brussels, I loved them DH moaned and didn't eat them, I did overcook them, and I didn't cook them anywhere near as long as the recipe said, think I'll need to do some experiments with it! Dinner tonight will be just 3 of us - we'll be having egg, baccon, sausage, beans, and mushrooms.

I was reasonably productive yesterday - I will continue with the washing, drying and ironing, dirty wash basket only had 1 load left in it, but I stripped and remade our bed - I managed to wash the duvet cover overnight, that'll go into the TD shortly then the sheet can be washed. I got several little jobs/phone calls/work on pc done that needed doing. We were supposed to go to DS2's presentation evening, but he didn't want to go, he had absolutely no interest in returning to the school, I rang and we're going today to collect his certificates from reception this morning.

Whilst in town yesterday morning, I had a few minutes to kill before my nail appointment, so went to have a nosey in the CS's we have loads - and spied a gorgeous, look virtually brand to the knee heeled boots - was able to try them on and they fit a treat and at a bargainous £8.99 - so chuffed as I'd been looking and hadn't been able to find anything that I really liked at the right price! The cheapest I'd found had been £25 and they seriously look cheap - these have probably been worn once or twice, the lining inside is as new, and they are not marked and the heel and sole are not pitted, loving my bargain haul this week!

Today is another busy day - I'll be heading to the SM shortly, then I need to take DS2 to collect his certificates, go into town with him to check out a new phone (his xmas prezzie). I'd like to get some cooking/baking done if possible, we'll see. I'm working tomorrow, DH may be too.

Keep safe and well x

• Morning folks and thanks GERS. Hope all goes well for your DM at the Drs. TRU good luck constructing your chicken proofer. I have just been watching last night's Masterchef which I managed to sleep through! The price I pay for early morning wakening.

Got the shopping done yesterday and went overboard a bit but all the meat is bought and frozen, plus more bits and pieces which I really didn't need or have room in the freezer for! Hopefully just fresh stuff left to buy now.

The usual Friday clean round to do today and then tomorrow may get the tree and decs up. We usually leave it till the second week-end of Dec, going back a long way to when it was DH's work party for the kids that w/e and we came home feeling festive, eager to trim up! (Not so eager these days and the decs have been toned down a lot!)

Middle DGD's rehearsals for the panto at Bradford Alhambra have been underway all week, in readiness for the season starting next Sat. It runs till the end of January, which will involve an awful lot of to-ing and fro-ing for the mums & dads ferrying them about. It's Peter Pan this time starring, as always, Billy Pearce along with Darren Day, Jon Lee and Charlie Hardwick.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) as always to those in need. COXY yesterday must have been very difficult for your DS. Take care all xx

Love the songs Tru
Camelot, chin up it will be lovely when it's finished.
Off to the palace of pain, otherwise known as work, we have a new initiative, because everyone is so upset about our pay cuts and other ways our situation is being eroded they have appointed a Wonderful Wellbeing Idiot, who comes up with suggestions of ways to improve staff morale, since all her ideas involve us spending money we haven't got since the pay cuts I can see her being lynched soon.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning all,

Thanks for all the virtual hugs and good wishes - I'm very grateful xx. Work will be quieter today as my boss is on leave and there are only 5 of us in the office due to various other part time/compressed working patterns. Hoping to get to ELC this evening as I had to gift my baby nephews present to church parade toy service as I'd not had a chance to shop for another gift. Will be rebuying it this evening all being well.

Dad is coming to stay for a few days to give my sister a break. Not sure what's for tea but hopefully I'll be home early enough to sort it out :)

Bathrooms need to be cleaned and school uniform washed this weekend. We are also planning to go to Costco and sort out the tree. I think DD will be putting it up whilst we shop as tbh I can't face doing it this year.

Hope all the poorlies get better soon. Hugs to lainey and hilstep and anyone else in need of one.

Tru - take care with your construction work, it sounds like a big job :)

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Gers, safe trip into the city.

Dry and mild here still, I am due to meet a pal this morning for brunch and a good catch up, we have cancelled three times already so fingers crossed will go ahead. After that will go over to see DM, she had a better day yesterday pain wise and thoroughly enjoyed her brother's visit. I did pick up a couple of bracelets for her that had been mended so now there is just a ring to sort out and all her boxes are done, she has written a little card to put in each one explaining what it is and where it came from. I think all the recipients will appreciate the gesture no end.

Glad to read that you are ok Coxy, thinking of you m'dear and all others who are poorly or struggling, take care folks x

Have a good day everyone.
• Good morning everyone,

Still very dark in Glasgow this morning.

Wrapped all my presents last night so I'm now feeling much more organised. I now know of a few little things I need to get, I feel a bit more relaxed.

I don't have many plans for tonight. It's my step-brothers wedding tomorrow so I'll no doubt have an early night in preparation for it.

tru - your trip to the sights of Xmas without any distractions sounds perfect. I can totally understand.
camelot - enjoy your night out tonight. Wrap up!
nmlc - congrats on your CS bargain.
