But the polling data is really pretty clear on this topic...;)
If the polling data says immigration was the number 1 concern, what does that actually mean?
Does it mean that those who consider immigration their number 1 concern that they're xenophobic?
Could it mean something else, like pressure on wages, jobs, services, etc...?
If you answer honestly you'll understand why calling them all xenophobic and racist is a bigoted position.
I don't consider myself to be anything like you suggest, I'm just getting fond of pointing out the gaping holes in the arguments of the bigoted, it's an easy win, and they look ridiculous for it.0 -
TrickyTree83 wrote: »And yet the only bigotry we see on here is people like yourself telling everyone who bothers to read what you post how Leave voters decided they had better vote leave because they were xenophobic and hate foreigners. They were too stupid to make up their own minds for other reasons and did what the printed media told them to do, right?
If you don't want people to criticise the newspapers you read, maybe read better newspapers?
Personally any news source with "Migrant Invasion" on the front and a picture of some poor displaced family is a pretty clear symbol that I don't want to read it.
The same way as I don't normally try and drink in pubs filled with England flags and patrons with shaved heads and facial tattoos of union jacks and lions.
I suppose one could accuse those pubs of enabling their behaviour but maybe its a bit of both.0 -
I really didn't think this through when I started this thread and neither did I spot the other thread which gives better data than this one ever would.0

I used to enjoy reading the same stories online in the Guardian and the Telegraph to see how they spun them differently. I also find it interesting to hear which stories radio stations choose to lead with, or include at all, in their hourly news bulletins (I mainly listen to Talksport, the Absolute retro music stations, R4 & Five Live).
One of the main things I noticed when living abroad was how other countries have a much more limited range of daily news publications compared to the UK. It is also healthy that the BBC is regularly moaned about by those on the right and left. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

I don't subscribe ethically or financially to any particular newspaper. They are all biased, we should all try to gather information from all sides.
Why wouldn't you drink in pubs like that? Aren't you stereotyping those people? Perhaps they don't hold the views you've attributed to them purely by where they socialise and their appearance?
Do you believe there are 17.4m people with skinheads, tattoos on their face drinking in pubs draped in the flag of St George who voted to leave to conform with your stereotype?
Ladies and gentlemen, the product of identity politics. You have a stereotyped label attached to you because of your skin colour, your appearance, your community, your education, your earnings and many more divisive attributes that I'm probably too uneducated to mention.
The bigotry does exist, it's easy to call it out and I suggest more do so.
Edit: This just popped up on my news feed which I think aptly demonstrates the level of bigotry of the identity politics people have been indoctrinated by.

I'm an exception as well:D, there's quite a lot of us about.
It is really wearing when all you hear is how bigoted and racist you are because of a hard thought voting preference.Disappointingly I don't fall into the majority of other parameters either, earning well above average, not being nostalgic about the past etc etc.

You are wiggling and weaving in every way imaginable.
Firstly your "news feed popup" is a load of complete cobblers concocted by some "gentleman" who is about to do a roaring trade in plastic union jack hats and commemorative gollywogs (which contrary to the advice from UKIP central are as racist as you can get) to every card carrying UKIP supporter and Brexitwit in the British Isles and beyond.
Yes, it is lies Trickytree. Lies. No one has abused his shop. It is more manufactured faux outrage manufactured by lying xenophobic rightists to pursue their agenda.
Exactly like this:

I will leave you to return to your Bernard Manning videos.0 -

Where's the proof for your accusation?
I've recently pointed out the proof for a completely fake article in the Guardian written by someone purposely trolling them about your "liberal" values. They published it, the troll came out with the proof and the Guardian looked ridiculous and still to my knowledge haven't retracted it.
You appear to hate everyone your political allegiances say you shouldn't, people on welfare for voting leave, pensioners for having a pension and voting leave, the working class for voting leave. Yet you're a socialist/communist Labour supporter, a party who stand up for these very people - allegedly. It appears you're very conflicted, scrambling around for some semblance of the reality you inhabit to be true and failing, badly.
Edit: The problem with your generalisations, is they're not generally indicative at all. They're bigoted. I previously voted Lib Dem, then Conservative, never Labour and never UKIP. I'm not racist, I'm not xenophobic, I apologise for not fitting into your world where everyone sits in neat little boxes that you can label and treat them with derision or adulation as the label demands you should.
My news feed has nothing to do with the right or left wing, it's a piece of software that parses news sites for new articles and in my observation has no preference as to whether the news comes from BuzzFeed, Vox, Daily Record, Daily Mail, Sun, Telegraph, Times, FT, etc... again, sorry for not fitting into your neat little box.
The story about the Syrian refugees being welcomed and catered for, in a constituency that voted to leave the EU should tell you all you need to know about your views on people that voted to leave the EU. Challenge your biases, change them based on reason, evidence and logic.
The media, they're all shysters, they're all bias. Pro-Remain, Pro-Leave, they all lower their standards to push an agenda. Instead of attacking one another we ought to be attacking them and our politicians who are both clearly out of touch with general consensus.0 -

Do they have a lot of those pubs around your way? I can't think of any near me. I wonder if there are lots in Sunderland.
I know that it helps your black and white view of the world to see Brexit voters as some type of cartoon villain, but it does demonstrate your limited appreciation of reality."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0
