Do I need an antivirus for my android Mobile phone?

    Yep, here is malware out there that can autoroot your phone.
    And there are apps that behave like malware.(popping up ads etc)


    And antivirus software on your phone can do zero to stop this. See my post above for reasons why
    The android operating system simply doesnt behave in the same way as an OS like windows.


    AV companies are playing on the fact that most people thing that advice for their PC translates to advice for their mobile phone just because they think it acts like a computer.


    This is not the case
    All it can do is flag up any apps that you have installed whos names match some names that it has on a list

    Even the chief security bod for Android says you don't, although whether you want to believe a Google employee with a vested interest is another question.

    And in any case Avast mobile protection is just damn annoying. You can't (or couldn't disable individuals components).

    Being told every 30 days that your wi-fi connections may be unsafe is annoying at best and scaremongering at worst.

    Malwarebytes is fantastic on a Windows machine though
