Changing Personalised Number Plates
Hi,
I bought a car from a family friend.
He sold it to me with HIS personlised number plates on as he didn't want them on his enw car at the time.
I am registered for Tax, Insurance etc. all under the personalsied plates.
He now wants the plates on his new car.
How do we go about this?
I'm under the impression HE needs to pay the £80 to have them taken off and then my car reverts back to it's original plates- do I then need to change tax/ insurance etc.?
Any help appreciated!

He wants it, he pays.
Insurance will need change, and the admin he pays for that also.
Tax will transfer with the plate change, no worries there.0 -
If he sold the car to you with the personalised plate on it, then the plate now belongs to you. He should have transferred the plate before he sold the car.
As he is a friend, he needs to reimburse you for the work YOU will have to do to complete the transfer, including the £80 fee and the costs you will incur with insurance, etc."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. https://www.gov.uk/keep-registration-number
to take it off the car use that website during normal office hours and it will happen immediately you will be given the number to put on your car and in a week you will have a new V5 showing the new number
a few days later you will get a retention certificate for the private plate
inform your insurance tax will change automatically0
