Hey guys
I bought a TV from AO 3 months ago for £750 and they managed to haggle me a 30 day rolling insurance plan for £7.50 a month with Domestic & General Services Limited. I said yes as it wasnt a contract and could opt out whenever I wanted.
Roll back two days ago, my partner decided to light up a candle underneath the TV (floating shelf.) She melted some of the plastic on the tv and i thought it would be alright as it's only cosmetic. But come today I noticed some defect in the viewing on the TV, where it was burnt. You can only notice it when the screen is black, even then it isn't that bad it's just like a white mark
Sorry if I sound stupid, but my question is will it be worth claiming on the insurance? It says it will affect my insurance premiums, what exactly does this mean and what insurance does it affect? I don't have any other type of insurance except for this plan, but i am looking to get a car and car insurance in the near future?
I can live with the TV's defect as it is not that bad at all. But if I can get it fixed without affecting me I would rather do that.

As usual there are lots of ifs and buts:5. Your equipment must not have been lost, stolen, misused, neglected, poorly installed, subject to malicious damage, or damage caused by fire, explosion, floods, lightning, storms, frost or other bad weather conditions, rust, corrosion or water.

They didn't haggle the insurance. They saw a way to make some commission, as you will be paying £90 pa , with little chance of claiming (most tvs have at least 2 years' warranty and up to 6).
They are very unlikely to pay out on damage caused by stupid behaviour; the candle placement being like putting a table lamp on a sink's draining board.
If you claim and are (very likely) refused, they will put up the monthly cost or even refuse insurance as you are not a good risk.0 -
