Yes...the papier mache ones are, but it is a good idea to break them up a bit. I use the egg trays that come with a plastic cover as mini-greenhouses to protect seeds from colder air in greenhouse

yes if they are cardboard ones. tear up into bits first. along with the center of kitchen rolls and loo rolls, again shred/tear fist if poss.
your compost should have some dry bits added,
I try to put layer of greens (garden stuff/kitchen bits) then layer of paper,
all our shredded stuff goes in or if short of that, they local paper gets shredded instead of going in the recycle bin.
good luck0 -
I walked away from the eggs in Tesco in disgust that they'd started using all plastic egg trays - the cardboard ones go in the compost, and as well as adding dry material they also help create air pockets.Adventure before Dementia!0

This year I tried mushing a few down by soaking for 24 hours in water. After this they become pliable and I formed them into moulded shapes to line hanging baskets. They've worked fine but don't think they will last for next year so I'll recycle them in my composter.0

I have saved the cardboard ones for planting seeds in next year - I can then plant these direct into the ground. With the plastic ones, they go in the re-cycling at the moment, but I am sure I could find a better use for them???C Card £5218.68 (Feb 2011)£2 coins (No 085) - £190Mort overpayments 2011 - £418.060

Now I like that idea - on maternity leave next year so will have more time to do this kind of thing - thanks for the tip!
