Scanner problem??

I have a problem with my Microtek 4700 scanner.
I have re-installed it several times. Deleted the contants of both Twain folders (c:/Windows/Twain 32) and the problem still persists.
No Red being scanned.
Like the tube on Old tellies I assume that the Red 'reader' can go? Is this what is likely or is that improbable.
Short of lugging the Scanner round to my brothers and installing it on his machine (He already has a scanner and I'm concerned that i may upset his set-up) Is there any thing else that I can do or does this sound terminal?

I have had a scanner in the post that wouldnt scan one colour
it was consigned to the bin so sorry it looks like yours is broken.
I would guess that spcific colour filters can get damaged
