BG Collective Fix Feb 17

Like many others in the Energy Saving Club I opted for the BG Fix which ends on 28 Feb,17, so around the turn of the year, we will be able to switch without penalty.

I have read in a recent newsletter from Martin that Collective Fixes are not being bid for by the suppliers, so will we all be getting something in the way of advice in due course, or do we need to be comparing the market (so to speak) individually for the best offers?

I am thinking it's not worth paying an exit fee to get whatever is going at the present time but is that wrong thinking?

Thanks to those more knowledgable on these matters.

  • Look for your own offers at the various switching sites. Also if you are currently dual feul, look at using separate suppliers as this can be cheaper.
If your deal really finishes on the 28th February then you can look at switching some 49 days before it ends, so January 11th onwards. Check the end date at your BG website account.

Won't Energy Saving Club contact contact everyone who switched to get the Feb17 fix?
  • No.
The CEC (Cheap Energy Club) does not necessarily know when an individual's contract with a supplier ends even if you applied through them (as is the case here). Some fixes are for 1 calendar year from when the switch happens or to a fixed date for everyone. Either way, they don't chase you when it is coming to an end.
What they will do, if you have asked them to, is to contact you when you can save more that a certain amount of money. But that is at anytime of the year.
I would log into the CEC and check your settings to see if you have accepted marketing emails and if so, for how much savings.
BG will contact everyone when they are at the 49 days and free to switch without exit fees. They will no doubt give you an offer from themselves which will not be cheap. However if BG make a mistake and forget to contact you (or the email gets lost somewhere) , it is still worthwhile putting a reminder somewhere to check your energy savings after the 11th January 2017.

I updated my consumption data which is actually lower than last year, and I had set a £75 threshold which I have reduced to zero but we are unlikely to get a cheaper deal now anyway.
I will shop around but an MSE comparison shows about £20 pm more.
I will hang on till February I think but energy is only going one way, price wise as far as I can see.
    Thanks for replies

I'm on the same fix but a couple of weeks ago I decided to cut my losses and pay the exit fees to switch. I got cold feet seeing the deals increasing in price relentlessly. I fixed my gas with Better Energy for two years and my electricity with Places for People for 1 year. Already both providers are more expensive than when I made my switch.

    Hi oxters,

We'll send you an email when you're coming towards the end of your fixed tariff. This email will be based on the tariff end date entered in your Cheap Energy Club account, so you might want to check that this is correct.

    Thanks,
    MSE Laura

    Thank you Laura

I did think you would be in touch.

I don't think there's much chance of a bulk switch but we'll await with interest.
