Boiler repair but no cover

Hi everyone
my boiler has developed a leak that is leading to me having to repressurise nearly every day. The 2 year warranty ended in May this year and I unfortunately haven't set up any type of repair cover. I am a single mum with two young kids so I really don't want to be shelling out hundreds on a repair if this could be included within a boiler cover plan., although obviously I need heating and hot water. I know British gas do allow this although I have read a few things about their cover only being good in theory and they will end up charging a lot more. Can anyone help me with this ? The boiler is a Potter ton pro max combi in case that makes any difference

Where is the leak? If the PVR has failed, or the filling loop is not closing properly, then neither is an expensive repair. Just find a local GSR RGI who knows your model.
The cover does not generally apply to pre-existing faults, and a year's cover will cost you more than a one-off repair. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I agree, ask around everyone you know, especially anyone in the plumbing trade should have a skilled boiler/gasman on tap, usually sole traders.
My chap kept our old Vaillant going for years for far less than a monthly deal would have cost, and did us a very good deal when we decided to fit a new one.0 -
I'm assuming 2 year old boiler ?
The leak is more than likely on the radiator system , any obvious signs of rust on radiators , damp carpet under radiators near the valvesEx forum ambassador

Like trying to insure a pet or human for a pre-existing health condition, I very much doubt a new service contract would cover damage already existing.0

I had a Potterton Promax FSB, which is just floor standing instead of wall mounted.
If I just bought a one year contract, with no fault to begin with, it was less than £200, but since I called because there was a fault, they put me on something called Repair and Protect, for about £400.
As it turns out, eleven months later, I had to call them out again, and this time it was the controller board, which would have been really expensive. All covered by the £400.
If it's two years old, can you get the original installer to come back?
It might be a common fault, subject to recall. I have a Glowworm boiler, which leaked after a couple of years. The original installer does a lot of Glowworm installations, and it's a known fault, so all he had to do was to order the part, for free. I don't think he even charged me for replacing it.0 -

Plus there is an exclusion period, so you wouldn't be able to claim for the first six weeks or so anyway.
Could you not try the maker? Given that the warranty has only just lapsed, they might be generous. There is a lot of stuff on the MSE website about statutory rights which you could cite?0
