Company demanding to inspect car
Comments
-
It seems unreasonable to want to inspect the vehicle when its unlikely it will be a requirement for insurance. I imagine the insurance provider will be happy with an MOT and the proviso that the vehicle is maintained.
Brakes can fail at any point. They could fail as soon as he left the inspection.
I would ask how regular the inspections are?
If they say its a one off, id state its pointless doing the inspection. The legal reuqiremnet for an annual MOT would surpass any merits of inspection.
I'd be tempted to say they need to inspect the vehicle everyday otherwise they couldnt guarantee the validity of any inspections.
Seems an odd way of doing things and would imagine its more or less exactly as you say, divvy off funds to the garage.
Sounds like a great way to !!!! off his sons new employer :beer:0 -

It is irrelevant whether it "seems unreasonable" or not!
What they are doing is certainly not unlawful and in any case the OP's son has no job security as he has been employed for less than two years.0 -
Just a thought - if the car is being used for business purposes they could also require it to be clean and tidy. (I mention this only because my own car is known for being a mobile rubbish tip.) I would seriously advise him to make sure it is shining and free of rubbish before they look at it
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Im sure it will. Personally i would challenge it, seems unreasonable to me. Not my employer, wage or consequences though.
It would be one thing challenging it if it were you and you were the employee. Chances are :-- You're old enough for this not to be your first job
- You wouldnt challenge it on behalf of a child if it was their employer.
It would set a new, young employee off on totally the wrong foot to be pushing back based on "my dad says..."0 -
They have evidence of business class insurance and valid test cert, that should suffice, however he needs to learn to pick his own workplace fights and this maybe isn't one for him at this stage.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

What does your son think?I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

From their perspective, if your son was to plough in to the back of another car (god forbid) and it turned out he'd no business insurance and defective brakes, it could reflect badly on them (press coverage, etc).
Not just bad publicity, the company eg the fleet manager could potentially be charged with a serious offence under health and safety laws in the event of an injury or death accident.
The H&S laws apply to employees using their own vehicles for business use in exactly the same way as an employee using a company vehicle for business use0 -

Are you sure, in the past its been the Police who report to crown, who then decided if to press charges. I wrote off a company car, it was nothing to do with H&S. It might have changed,0 -

It is all very well to say "that should suffice" but if the employer chooses to have much tougher terms and conditions then there is nothing he can do but comply.0
