Will I need to replaster the whole bathroom?

So I've got a really damp patch in my downstairs bathroom...I'm a DIY novice, so I just want to ask if I can just get this patch replastered or whether the whole bathroom will need doing.

Attempting to attach a photo to this so people can see what I'm on about!

First of all, have you located and fixed the reason why damp is there in the first place?

Applying a finish (plaster/paint...) wont fix the root cause of the problem and could make the problem worse.

If you have, then you can get patches patched up, but depends on the overall quality of the other plaster in the room on a whole. Sometimes its worth spending a bit more and getting the lot done in one go rather than having to go back to it at a later stage...

There's damp throughout the downstairs. At the moment all I want to do is just get it patched up as we can't afford to address the damp for a while. I was hoping it would be possible to pay someone to just plaster the corner so that I could repaint?

You could, but chances are it wont last very long if damp is still coming through! Your best bet would be to live with it as is and use the money you would spend now to go towards addressing the problem as it will simply cost you more in the long run.

Looking at the picture, the worse of it looks like the paint has come away rather than the plaster however so light just need scraping back, adding some light filter and re-painting

In that case I wouldn't waste money patching it up. You aren't solving anything. Do you know what is causing the damp?

That looks like a long term damp issue. If you let it continue you risk further deterioration to your property. You need to find out what is causing the damp and get it fixed asap.

If you're not going to fix the damp you might as well not replaster.

I'd hack it off .... then get some matching paint and just paint over the bare bricks... so it at least has a chance to look a bit better than it is.

If the look of it offends you, even with a splash of paint, then get a cheap paper tablecloth, cut out a square and double-sided sellotape that onto the wall ... and before anybody says "do what???" I did that in my living room for 3 years just so it looked better when a big chunk dropped off in a previous house :)
