Hey.... great thread, just up my street
So I now have a further 8 books on my wish list and think the Spent one could be the first I go for.
The book I have most 'enjoyed' this year was 'Austerity' by Kerry Mendoza It made me see things from a different perspective and I found it very inspiring ....esp as I am now heading into a new 'era' in my life (!).
So the current book I am reading is 'The World at a Crossroads' by Peter Fieldman except I raced through the first 2/3rds and couldn't put it down and then it lost me....it is full of interesting info about European politics and so on that I have never heard about and then it just started to rant on and on, like an old man having a grumble.
This made me hesitate to recommend it as I didn't agree with a lot of his views on mixed cultures and so on.0 -

Hi fc... welcome back!
I agree BTW - Fieldman seems to view everything through a "grumpy old man" perspective.
The constant tirades against bankers, 'elites', immigration and cultural dilution just make him unreadable for me.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
