Hey.... great thread, just up my street :)
So I now have a further 8 books on my wish list and think the Spent one could be the first I go for.

The book I have most 'enjoyed' this year was 'Austerity' by Kerry Mendoza It made me see things from a different perspective and I found it very inspiring ....esp as I am now heading into a new 'era' in my life (!).

So the current book I am reading is 'The World at a Crossroads' by Peter Fieldman except I raced through the first 2/3rds and couldn't put it down and then it lost me....it is full of interesting info about European politics and so on that I have never heard about and then it just started to rant on and on, like an old man having a grumble.
This made me hesitate to recommend it as I didn't agree with a lot of his views on mixed cultures and so on.

    Hi fc... welcome back!

I agree BTW - Fieldman seems to view everything through a "grumpy old man" perspective.

The constant tirades against bankers, 'elites', immigration and cultural dilution just make him unreadable for me.
