I need to do the calculations on Dual Fuel
Does anybody know what the Atlantic price increases are; MSE says those magic global catchall words "up to.." Martin I am surprised at you :-X
I am an Atlantic customer but have not yet been advised of these increases in their Gas and Electricy supply although I understand from MSE alert that this will occur for existing customers from 1st July next.
Anybody had notification yet?Save a Lert0 -
I've also been with Atlantic for nearly a year on dual fuel, so when I saw Martin's price rise warning I went to Uswitch for the new comparison, and if I dial in the actual units used, it still shows Altantic as the best value, closely followed by Scottish Power (who now own Atlantic). But if I use the 'current payments' method Scottish power will save me £80 per year. Confused? Yup. I suppose the best option is to wait the six weeks or so and hopefully get my loyalty bonus, and then do the comparison again using the actual usage figures for the whole year.
I've certainly had no warning of price increases from Atlantic themselves.0 -
Update - just spoken to Atlantic (08000522080) and got the new rates applicable from July 5th, on my deal which is dual fuel, with standing charge, fixed price monthly DD. The increase on Electricity is just under 10%, and increase on gas is just over 26%! The gas unit price rises from 1.236p per kWh to 1.591!
However the loyalty bonus is one month's payment - in my case £61, so eyewash's original question regarding the inclusion of bonus in the calculations is most pertinent.0 -
Don't they actually have to notify customers before making such changes??0

Thanks Odyssy,
As a help to those who feel the need to change (after their loyalty refund) and others avoiding the price increase from Atlantic Elec & Gas.
I ran my annual consumption (you can use price but estimated consumption is best - beware the Gas Kwh calculation it is not the units but an applied formula with a variation on the calorific value) through all the comparison sites suggested in Martins article and apart from getting some variations there was a pattern showing the best top results.
Compare Dual fuel, Gas only, Electricity only. Separate suppliers can give a better deal.
I then looked at the T&C for each chosen tariff - not available on all sites - to check the latest rates applied and eliminated those who were due a price hike soon (Powergen and Scottish & Southern).
End result - went for Scottish Power internet account on Gas only - not the cheapest (this was Telecom plus by £6) but hidden in the small print was this tit-bit
"The capped tariff introduced in March 2004 offers fixed rates until March 07. This insulates the customer from any potential price rises until March 07"
Signing on through energyhelpline gives me another tenner and supports Martin's site.
Jury still out on electricity (only a couple of quid difference) until price hikes work their way through.
Great Save though; thanks all and I hope this helps you energy Savers out there;D

Received my loyalty rebate of £66 today - a week ahead of my start date! No complaints there.
The attached letter states ' You will receive a loyalty rebate for every year you are supplied by Atlantic and paying by fixed monthly Direct Debit.'
Not only that but the contact number for the rebates team is 01452 558 386 NOT a non-geographic number! - is someone paying attention?0 -
