This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

A very early Good morning from me today .Blooming barking of a fox woke me up at 3.30a.m. this morning and I am dreadful at dropping back off once I am awake so got up and made a cuppa.I'll probably be down for a catch-up Nanna nap later
:):)
Well DD took her lovely lurcher rescue dog to see the vet consultant at Canterbury and the news isn't great. The vet decided that it was one of two things. It could be a bacterial infection as his left eye has an infection behind it and she thinks the eye's pretty damaged, and little can be done.
The right eye has signs of deterioration that its possible if it is bacterial they may be able to save with antibiotics. That's the positive news.
She felt his flanks and said his lymph nodes were inflamed and worst case scenario it could be leukemia, in which case he had at most 2-3 months as there was little that could be done. She then said that a special blood test she could do would cost £110. or DD could take the dog to her own vet which may do a general one for less.
DD wasn't greatly impress by this consultant as having forked out £175 for the hour long 'consultancy' the vet then disappeared for 25 minutes to talk to some one else. When she reappeared she said she could give her some eye drops at another £10.00 that 'may' help
DD bought them as she was so upset about the possibility of losing a second dog .They had got this one from the rescue centre in August after their old dog of 16 years sadly had a bad stroke and had to be PTS.
So her and my son-in-law came home and it was quite a sad evening .They are going to take him on Friday to see their own vet who she has a lot more faith in and he will have the test to establish what's wrong.
The dog is such a lovely thing really very gentle and loving and the boys were all in bits last night
The youngest Mikey was in tears bless him as he adores the dog.
Hopefully if its bacterial, he will have the anti-bios but he has little sight in one eye and although his perception is a bit off he can live with that.
But if its not and it is leukemia then we will have Christmas with him, and DD says she won't let him suffer unnecessarily.
Apart from bumping into things now and again he seems OK although he doesn't like his head near his poor eye touch and will cry if he knocks it Lurchers are such large ungainly dogs, bless him. But he is eating OK at least.I felt so sorry for DD and the family as he is such a lovely dog, and had helped them all get over losing their old dog.
So its a case of fingers crossed at the moment for our poor 'Bowie'.
Apart from the drama last night yesterday was a really nice day and I enjoyed meeting up with NRA, Carolbee and the others in Faversham.Spent a bit of 'Happy Cash Stash ' on some Christmas goodies which will be tucked away for a couple of weeks .
Seems quite mild at the moment and hopefully I won't need the heating on today I didn't need it yesterday at all.
I am going to finish off doing my Christmas cards today and get those in the post that have to go off. Not sure yet whats for dinner tonight, but it will definitely be something from the freezer as I am trying to run it down and get it defrosted, so it will be freezer roulette I think
Hope everyone has a good day what ever you are doing.
<<Hugs for those in need of one
take care all

Morning All
Sorry to hear of Bowie's problems JackieO, hope the outcome is good. Glad you had a good meet up.
You have 'living wallpaper' outside your door Gers, beautiful.
Took a friend to Costco after work yesterday, I think the bill surprised her! She got lots of Christmas goodies for her family and some things she hasn't seen since her and her family have been back in the UK from the USA. I took her boys for something to eat at the cafe so she could have a wander.
I need to phone Curry's today, they delivered the hob and fridge but no dishwasher. It's a central number which will cause problems, it may be easier to just go to the shop to see if they can find it.
The builders have started to paint the kitchen before the floor goes down, the window should be going in today. They have said that they should be done by the end of next week - I hope so or they will all be staying for Christmas dinner!
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
JackieO - thanks for starting us off, fingers crossed for Bowie x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now going to work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was chicken in country sauce, mash, carrots, broc, peas and cauli in cheese sauce, ice cream for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure, as it's going to be disjointed as DS2 has his presentation evening from secondary school, he's not fussed whether he goes, but I don't trust the school to send/hold on until we collect his exam certificates, so we'll go so we can keep them safe. I'll be pleased when I don't have to set foot in that place ever again, son says the same.
I'm on days' off, so have all the normal chores to do, so will be heading into town this morning as I need to visit the building society and bank, and I have a nail appointment too. I'll crack on with the washing, drying and ironing, I've been doing some washing and drying it on the airer in the dining room - don't particularly like doing this but as it's been so cold until now the heating was coming on during the night so washing was drying quite quickly, I don't see the point on having the heating on and then putting clothes in the TD and effectively paying twice! I'm working Sat morning so need to get as much done as possible as I'm working next Sat too, but I do have a day off on Tues as it's DS2's graduation from National Citizen Service and it's being held in next town, so we're going in the afternoon we'll do some shopping and have some dinner out then go to the ceremony.
Keep safe and well x

redruby I worried every time master tru went out driving for about a year! I don't worry now but still tell him to be careful when he goes out
JackieO Fingers crossed for Bowie x Please let us know how he gets on.
I have plenty of netting and chicken wire. I spent half my day yesterday staring at the run and trying to work out how to put it up! The problem is trees, I have four. They're not massive, but too tall to throw net over and I can't see how to go between branches without leaving lots of gaps. The tent is a fab idea, I'll ask around for one.
I really need to get stuck into the housework this morning, the kitchen floor is terrible and the carpets are covered in bits. How does it get so bad in just two days?! Also need to clean out the microwave and fridge. The plasterboard sheets are gone from the hall :T so I can try out my garlands now, there's still time to order another if one of them isn't long enough.

Morning folks and thanks for the start JACKIE. So sorry to hear about the poor doggy and hope it's not as bad as feared.
Mild and wet is our forecast for today. I had a poor night's sleep as I was too warm and will get a summer nightie back out tonight!
We had a good night at the carvery, with much gossiping and wine! We expected it to be busy so near Christmas but not so. It was very quiet.
Mr TA's endoscopy went well yesterday and the Doctor told him there was still no change with the Barrett's disease and he will be seen in another 18 months. So another bit of good news as far as all his ailments go.
Had a natter with DS on the phone and he sounds so much better since his split from the psycho. He says it's lovely to be free of the stress that was always with him. He bumped into a gf from his school days, they got chatting and have met up a couple of times since! He's told me not to get excited as it's still early days!
I have the delights of the Thursday shop today. I got both freezers organised yesterday with the Xmas stash all in one place and there isn't room for anything else apart from the gammon and beef I want to buy today. Two turkey crowns are already stashed away.
Have a good day if you can and hugs to all in need/want of one. LWW, LAINEY, COXY and HILSTEP as always. TRU I hope you manage to keep your chucks safe from the bird flu. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Jackie I do hope the news is good for Bowie, our old dog lost her sight in both eyes and they do adapt really well, fingers crossed they can save the sight in one eye and its nothing more sinister xxx
Off to work today four days to go ! counting down now !
Tru she is driving to her work today which is in a busy town, I make her text me when she gets there, loving Tru's carol corner.
Camelot loving the progress of your kitchen, I cant wait to see it finished x
Something with chips for dinner tonight, I think there may be some chicken things in the freezer.
Thursday is my best client day at work so today should be a good day.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
JackieO - my fingers are crossed for Bowie and Mikey too. It's awful when a beloved pet is not well.
Camelot - just sitting in my living watching the sky is better than some TV programmes. After I posted the photo yesterday the grey sky developed a deep pink hue, fascinating. I hope you sort out your appliance problem today.
Tru - thanks for the lovely carol again.
TA - such good news about your OH. :j
It's so dark outside still. I'm up and getting ready for my delightful two hours with my group of disaffected teenagers. I'm much happier after meeting with head of numeracy yesterday so will sail through it.
Food is the YS ping meal I bought yesterday.
I hope everyone has a good Thursday.0 -
Morning all
Hugs to Lainey, Coxy, LWW, hilstep and anyone else in need.
Tru thanks for the carol.
Jackie O so sorry to hear about Bowie.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone,
JackieO thanks for the thread, will have fingers and toes crossed for Bowie dog, poor old boy.
Feel like a wet rag after a rubbish nights sleep, my mind will not switch off and if I wake up it takes an age to fall back to sleep again
Shame as had a good day yesterday, enjoyed a brunch out with DOH and then a leisurely mooch around an antique warehouse type place, didn't buy anything but loved looking.
Poor old Mum wasn't so good, they have increased the quantity and frequency of the morphine which will hopefully help with the pain, SIL said that she went back to bed in the afternoon which is unusual but was a tad brighter in the evening. Will go over this morning as have a few bits to drop off, my Uncle was talking about going over so may well see him.
Thinking of all poorlies and those struggling at the moment, have a good day everyone and take care folks x0
