how much are boots points worth?

Ok so seems a bit off topic but it's for my Mum who wants it for my uncle's Christmas present and i'm trying to get her the best deal.

She has a loyalty card and i've not used a boots one before, i've tried to work it out but find it confusing.

The item is worth £199.99 or 19,999 points, but what are these points worth?

Do they even come off your shopping like a nectar card or am I completely off base? Thank you.

The points are worth 1p as you show and they come straight off the card.

Points are accumulated at a rate of 4 per pound spent.

£1 spent in Boots = 4 Advantage card points.

Once you've accumulated the points, one point is one penny.

Like Nectar points, Advantage card points can be spent online or instore.

Unlike Nectar points which have to be spent in 500 point (£2.50) increments, you can spend however many points you need.

If a product costs £1.99, then, if you have 199 points on your Advantage card, you can buy the product.

However, unlike Nectar points, which can be used as part payment for items, you have to have enough Advantage card points to cover the entire purchase.

For example in Sainsbury's, a product costs £5.99 and you have 1050 points on your card, then you can use the card to pay for £5 (1000 Nectar points), have 50 points left on your card and pay the remaining 99p either on a debit or credit card or pay cash.

In Boots, if a product costs £5.99, then you MUST have the full 599 Advantage card points, in order to pay for your product. No part payments are allowed.

That's the original figure I got but it didn't make sense to me which is why I started the thread.

The item i'm buying is £199.99, if that gives me an additional amount of points also worth £199.99 doesn't that mean my purchase is basically free give or take?

Oh ok I just used the calculator again and £200 pounds worth of points is about £7.96 or 796 points.

    Wait I got it!

it says £199.99 or 19,999 points which refers to how many points you need to pay for the product not how many points you get from the purchase.

Now I feel silly. Still that is almost £30 off with current promotions and points combined which is what I wanted. Thanks guys. :)

It's a good deal using Boots card but you do need to cost the item online and in other stores too.

I generally use Boots for expensive make up purchases unless they're doing a deal in Debenhams (usually matched by John Lewis) when Boots aren't the best value.

For basic toiletries Boots is generally not the cheapest compared with places like £ shops and Wilkos etc.

Thanks this item but one model down use to be £150 on Amazon but they upped the price £30 making it £180. The one i'm buying from boots is the model up and will be about £180 so it makes sense.

I agree Boots is generally more expensive.
This is the product if any one is interested. It boosts the circulation and it is classed as an official medical device. It is marketed as being beneficial for diabetes, gout, restless legs etc. among other things. They have specialist models for ostearthritis and knee issues on their own website.

    Perfectly. You've done your homework.:)

I just thought I'd post in case anyone was reading to find out about Boots points in general.

Before you buy, it's worth checking if your mum has had any vouchers lately. Boots sent me some a few weeks ago and you can probably increase the points you get quite a bit with them, iirc there was a double point voucher as well as a couple of extra points ones, where you spend a certain amount (assuming everyone gets similar vouchers :))
