I'm sure it was within the timeframe required but if I was to pursue the 'refused a downgrade' avenue how could I even prove that as it was only a verbal query?

You can't. You can only put your complaint in and see if NatWest are willing to uphold it.

My guess would be they will refuse because they have nothing to substantiate what you're saying.
    urs sinserly,

  • Thx JJ, Pretty much what I thought, I'll see what response I get when I downgrade Monday.
  • After reading martins post on mis-sold packages, i thought about it for a bit.

So i had one sold to me in 2011, at this point i was buying car and needed £300 deposit. money i didn't have as payday hadn't been yet. I went to the bank for a short loan and was told i had to take one of these accounts and this will give me £300 overdraft, and that was the only way.

I complained to bank of Scotland using the resolver tool(amazing site), two days after submitting it i just got off the phone to the complaints team 30 mins ago.

anyway, she agreed i was mis-sold and has issued a full refund including interest of £1280.

Thanks so much for the advise. on top of that i just blagged my BT contract down £180 a year.

appreciate this site giving people the confidence to fight back
  • I have submitted a claim through Resolver I have just received a call from the Halifax saying the account wasn't mis-sold , my claim was that I was told that if I opened the Ultimate Reward Account I would get a better interest rate on a mortgage I enquiries about, because I didn't take a mortgage out until 12 months after I had opened the bank account and also because I contacted the RAC to enquire about roadside assistance even though I didn't take the cover out. I had roadside cover travel insurance and home emergency cover through my work.

Are you able to demonstrate that this reference to a preferential interest rate wasn't true (regardless of whether/when you actually took out the mortgage, which is obviously outside their control)?
  • Thankyou MoneySavingExpert & Resolver.

Submitted the information as requested on the Resolver form, hit the submit button and within two days Lloyds contacted me about the claim being mis-sold.
I had my packaged account for about 16 years so was refunded the payments, interest & £90 overdraft fee where the monthly Gold Service charge took me into overdraft.

    I received £3,300!!

    THANKYOU!!!!
  • Hi. I made a claim yestetday but i have a missed call from Halifax asking for me to call them for more information. Any ideas what they want to know? Thanks

I guarantee that they will ask the $64000 question - WHY do you think it was missold!

That would be an unusually large redress.
  • Hi.
Thanks to Martin and resolver, I've just had £4090.00 deposited into my bank account by NatWest for accounts dating back to 1997. Not bad for 30 minutes work !
