My cats are being harrased by a neighbour

I'm sorry but this "nice old man" is obviously being plain spiteful. He is tormenting them when they are doing no harm, he is probably p'eed off that he cant catch the other cats pooing in his garden so takes it out on your cats because for no other reason than he can squirt them from there.
It really annoys me when people go on and on about cats poo etc .. dogs will c*ap anywhere, on the street, public footpaths, parks ... most cats cover their business as they are naturally clean animals.
Oh and the person who called them "bird murderers" :rotfl: , is it that difficult to say "cats".0 -

I don't want to deter from the OP, but I really need to reply to this
I am one of those people who will go on and on about cat cr*p. If I am taking my daughter to the park I am well aware that there have been inconsiderate people with dogs that allow them to use the grass as a toilet. I am constantly aware and keeping an eye on my daughter.
BUT in my own back garden, why the hell should I have to go out every time before I let my daughter out because somebody else's animal has done their buisiness on my lawn- I can keep my daughter away from dogs and their mess no problems. I can't keep cats out of MY area.
Sorry rant over.
Back to the OP, I do think it's out of order. I would understand the old chap if it was only when your cats went into his back garden."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -

We used to be troubled with Bird murderers in our garden but after a lot of persistence with a water pistol they finally got the message and keep away.
You're brave taking on men armed with shotguns with only a water pistol.
OP - If the other suggestions such as helping him buy a cat scarer don't stop him I would suggest a sterner approach. He's attacking your cats on your property. If explaining that to him doesn't help get the police involved and get him an ASBO.

I have 2 cats and the neighbour over the road used to do the same thing. Vile woman. Would you do the same thing to a dog who poos in your garden and doesn't bother to cover it or better still the owner doesn't bag it. No you wouldn't especially if it was a bulldog snarling at you.
Report him to the RSPCA and let him know you are doing so!0 -

There is quite a big difference between dogs and cats (leaglly speaking).
Dogs are licensed animals and need to be kept on a lead in a public place.
The owner is responsible for any damage they do.
So if (for exmaple) you run over one and it damages you car you can sue the owner.
I really love dogs BTW - I am just stating the law.
Cat owners on the other hand have no legal liability so if they scratch your car or pooh in your garden then it's tough.
I have some sympathy with the man as we have neighbouring cats that pooh in our garden and we have tried everything to stop them - water pistols, human male urine (not directly applied), lion pooh etc.
I would not aim the pistol over the fence but in some places the boundary between our properties is not exactly definined and I wouldn't be getting my tape measure out if I was trying to "discourage" them.0 -
Call the police and make a report of his animal cruelty. The cats were not in his garden so he had no reason to spray them other than to be cruel.
Its the same as kicking a cat for the sake of it on the street.
By all means spray the cats to keep them out your garden (I used to, until I got a dog) but anywhere else, and there is no need for it.0 -

The thing is not everyone likes cats, I appreciate that but as a cat lover myself, if any of my 2 cats were upsetting the neighbours, I would like to think that they could speak to me about it first rather than start spraying water at my cats. If it was the other way around, I don`t think the elderly man would be too chuffed if I were spraying water at his cats but if that was the case then I would be called for everything because I was doing that to his cats.0

so if he is preventing your cats going in where they might be able to poop, arent they just going to do it in his garden?????Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early
