Insurance claim outstanding previous owner

Can anyone advise me what I can do. We moved into our home 3.5 years ago. I continued to use the same company for both building and contents insurance. But this year I thought I would go on a comparison site and found a cheaper quote.
But when I tried to buy the policy I was told they would not accept me as there was an outstanding claim from nearly 3 years ago. This was not us, we have never claimed on our insurance. We feel it was the previous owners using their old address (ie ours) but we don't have their address so we can,t contact them. ( We know the general area they moved to and the company we were trying to insure with mentioned this area and asked did it mean anything to us. )
We are concerned as each year we will be unable to get a cheaper quote from another insurer as the same problem will arise or, should we unfortunately get burgled, when our claim is being looked at this mysterious outstanding claim will come up and our claim will be refused.
We really don't know who to contact or what we can do. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Contact your own insurance company. There will be a name againsthat this claim whicheck won't be yours. Get them to sort it outmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The claim must be held on the CUE (claims and underwriting exchange) database, write to them if you want.
No insurer asks for claims for more than 5 years ago, some only ask for 3 years; so you shouldn't struggle moving just because one other company matched that (by address and not name) claim to you.0 -
Agree with the above. Ask your insurer for the information held on CUE.0
