Yes widescreens are 'true flat' and you can get them in a variety of sizes. Don't get an LG - my boyfriend works as a tech support for an electronics company and apparently they're unreliable. He suggests a Panasonic - you should be able to get one for around £300-£330 in any high street electrical shop and they usually chuck in a free DVD player (Curry's have been recently) and the stand.0

I think that you'll find panasonic are good and philips not far behind.
Samsung have also got goot reports.
Avoid Alba, Goodmans, L.G. Etc
Remember that you usually get what you pay for.
Also John Lewis is worth a visit.
Good luck.
