Nothing sure with sure-thing car insurance!

Options
I have just under 8 months car insurance left with "sure thing".

Monday night my window was broken and I phoned sure-thing because I have glass cover included in my insurance.

They told me they would cover the repair and I would need to pay an excess of 50 pounds.

Today I was to get the glass fitted at the glass fitters however the claim department working on behalf of sure-thing told me to cancel the appointment because they were not going to cover the cost.

They told me the underwriter "Eridge" has gone into liquidation and that there is no guarantee that any claim would go-through.

So basically I'm not insured! even though I have just under 8 months left of car insurance left which cost me 900 pounds.

Sure-thing told me that I am covered till the 16 of December and that they are trying (out of the goodness of their heart) to find alternative cover but if they cant find it by the 16 (just over a week left) that I can say goodbye to my money. They tell me they are not responsible.

I said are you not going to tell your customers that the truth is they are driving around uninsured? They said cover is till the 16 of December yet the people at claims department told me they were not taking any claims and were also cancelling the glass cover they had told me to go ahead with the previous day.

They binned me off with an email address I should write to, no phone number so I could speak to someone and didn't even tell me who I was emailing.

So is this correct can sure-thing can just walk-off with my 8 months insurance money and tell me to get lost, since they sold me the insurance do they not have some illegal responsibility (they tell me they dint).

And they haven't told their customers that basically your driving around with no insurance because if you have an accident they wont handle the claim, they cancelled mine!
