Help needed in claiming against holiday company

In July our family of 4 hired a motor cruiser in the Norfolk Broads for our annual holiday. On the fourth day of the weeks holiday there was an electrical fault on the boat, whilst we were on it, and it caught fire. Fortunatley we were moored at the time and we had to abandon ship and could only watch as it, with all our belongings, went up in flames. Since then we have written to the holiday company asking for a refund for the cost of the holiday, the cost of replacing all our belongings and compansation for the ordeal we went through. They replied that they had passed our letter to their insurance company. Now, weeks later, we have had a letter from this insurance comapny saying that is does not come under their remitt and to write to another insurance company (who insured the boat company who the holiday company used). We feel that we were treated very badly at the time of the event and are now being passed around and messed about. We need to get expert advice about how to go about this and how much we can realistically expect to claim for the fact that our lives were at risk, the trauma of being on the boat when it caught fire, loss of our holiday and all the inconveniance now. But we don't want to incur a big legal expense on top of everything else. We really don't now where to turn. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Have you got free legal advice with your home or car insurance? They give legal advice on everything not just related to your car or house and depending on the cover will act on your behalf if necessary.
Personally I don't know where you stand but I'm sure someone else will.
Did you not have your own travel insurance? That would be the other avenue I'd explore.
Best of luck, I hope you get it sortedLook after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0 -
Why start another thread on this?
This was discussed in July and the feeling was that if you did not have adequate holiday insurance then you would find it difficult to get any financial refund.
Has anything changed now?0 -
What kind of figure have you in mind for "trauma" and "inconvienience"
I really cant be bothered with all this compensation for "trauma and hurt feelings stuff. Does ££s make it better ?
Your travel insurance should be able to deal with your loss of belongings- if you had any.
Just thank goodness no one was killed or injured.
Be thankfull if you get holiday refund plus any out of pocket expenses ie new for old would do me0 -
I see it as being like car insurance, if you have an accident that is the other persons fault, then you don't expect to have to claim on your own policy and loose your no claims bonus. We do have legal cover on our house insurance and have been in touch with them but it looks like it would take a long time for it to go through using them and since we have had to pay out to replace a lot of our belongings we really need to sort this out asap. So we would rather do it ourselves but with some guidance. When I say about trauma and inconvenience, I don;t just mean hurt feelings, I also mean things like my son having had unpaid holiday from work to go on this holiday, the fact that my partner would have to take unpaid holiday now if we were to go on another holiday (not that we can afford that now). It takes time and money to sort things out and I am angry at the way the holiday company are so uninterested. I also feel that they should have to pay for having put our lives at risk, we could have very easily been killed.0

I will repeat my thoughts - you are waffling trying everything in the book to pull a fast one.
This purely my thoughts no need to take any notice if you don't want to.
To ''take'' £4000 worth of goods including loads of expensive electrical goods (as per the previous postings you made) on holiday lacks credibility IMO.
The truth of the matter is that you did not have adequate travel insurance.0 -
Am I getting a feeling of deja vu here?
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
