    It's a con!
    Once you refund the money you will find that the sum paid into your account in the first place will disappear. Do you really believe that someone would:

    * Buy the vehicvle unseen
    * have it collected when you are not there
    * Return it and trust your goodwill to refund the money!!

    Nothing about the purchaser's behaviour is credible in any way.

    And how will it do that?

    Call his bank and reverse the bank transfer :cool: Standard scam tactics.

    Impossible.
    :cool: Standard scam tactics.
    No, you're getting confused with scams specific to WU/Paypal and some other money transfer providers, which don't work with bank transfers. Bank transfers are final.

    I gather for a transfer the vendor has to supply their bank details? If so, the van could be the least of his worries! Cash is king!

    Only if you still live in the 70s.

    And that report will involve work.

    Yup, it would.
    It's not down to the OP to prove anything. It's down to the buyer to prove that he was actively lied to.

    Also true. But if the buyer claims a fault that wasn't listed, it becomes a case of he said she said. If the seller has an independent report showing that the fault doesn't exist, it becomes very much an uphill battle for the buyer.

    I'm not proposing spending a lot of money, but there must be a local mechanic can have a quick look at it for £40.

    A bank transfer has about the same claw back rights as paying cash.

    There may be some circumstances where a payment can be returned, but to my knowledge these are very few and far between and have specific conditions ... the OP's situation wouldn't fall into that area.
