Buying new car

We buy a new ford car approx every ten years/100,000miles. Nothing seems to move on much in terms haggling from what I can see but wanted to ask a couple of things
Is it worth using carwow? I need to trade in a car so will I just get a lower trade in price because they don't want to deal a car they will send to auction
I know that it's possible to sell to 'buy any car' or similar but cannot have a gap between cars as only one family vehicle
I guess what am saying is - is it just as money saving to go to 3 local dealers and get best possible price?
Also wondering if Dec a month dealers less busy and am more likely to get a good deal or is it the opposite because maybe they have met their annual targets?
Thanks

  • Quote from Carwow or drive the deal. See if local garages will match/get close enough to that you're happy.

If buying from garage, either part ex to garage or sell or sell privately afterwards.

If buying from Carwow or DTD sell privately afterwards.

Only use WBAC if for whatever reason you don't want a period of owning 2 cars (insurance etc) and are happy with a bottom end price.

I've purchased a new car twice in the last few years. Each time I searched the internet for the best deal available. The first one I bought from an internet dealer and the car they sourced actually came from Liverpool (I'm in Kent !) but it was delivered and I didn't have to pay (except for a deposit) until 48 hours after taking delivery. At the time the manufacturer was offering 3 years free servicing but because I'd purchased from a broker we didn't qualify for that but it still worked out cheaper than any local main dealer offered us.
The second time I again got a quote from our local dealer and then went on the internet where I was quoted approx. £1,500 less by a dealer about 40 miles away so I went back to our local dealer and after some humming and harring they agreed to match the price. That was in March of this year and it's my understanding (but I stand to be corrected) that main dealers work on quarters so, yes, on that basis, December should be a good month to find a deal as it's the last month of a quarter.
As for a trade in, personally I'd try and agree a price first and then put forward what you've got to trade in and what you're looking for - do some research to see what you've got goes for and be prepared to settle for the lower end of the range.

It is so much easier to drive into your local dealer with your old banger and drive out with your new wheels. Last time I bought a Ford, I negotiated a far better deal with a dealer 100+ miles away and he delivered it foc.

I was surprised that WBAC offered more than dealer trade-in.
If you decide to go that route, you need not be without a car. Just arrange sale for date you collect new vehicle.

So if I were to sell to Wbac can u negotiate a price that holds for a couple of weeks or does the car go the day you take it to the dealer to be assessed?
Have had a few carwow quotes but they are not, so far as I can see, the exact spec have asked for although have barely specified beyond the colour - maybe need to have another go.

WBAC hold the price quoted for 7 days, as stated on their site. But when you take it for inspection they will find 'faults' and reduce their offer accordingly. Only any good if you want a quick sale and not want to deal with private buyers.
Trade in to the dealer may be better as you can just set a 'price to change' and let the dealer work out how he allocates his profit between the new car and the trade in.

    ....

I found them pretty easy to deal with. If you are honest with your declaration of the cars condition you should have no problem. :j

Based on your declaration you are given a valuation and only if you are happy do you arrange a date to trade. I had the dealers trade-in valuation to fall back on if they did not give me the price I had been quoted.

I suspect you'll find car finance has changed.
Its often cheaper to buy on finance because the manufacturers finance company throws in an "incentive" (never a discount :D ) to buy on finance. This might be anywhere from £500 up to thousands.
Then when you've got the car you phone up the finance company and settle the outstanding finance immediately.
