Just received my vehicle tax reminder, when do i need to pay?

Options
I just received my vehicle tax reminder (V11) through the post. Do I need to pay the Driver & Vehicle Licencing Agency right away, or can i wait until next month when my current vehicle tax expires?

Will I get a penalty charge notice if i pay next month?

whats the very latest i can pay??

Anyone got any information on tax payment, enforcement etc.... is very welcome to respond!!

You need to pay by midnight 31st December. After then it is late, unlikely that anything would be done about it before a couple of weeks but if you meet MrGrumpyPlod who has to work New Year's Day who knows what might happen.

    Technically yes, technically no.

If you've paid on NYD before jumping in the car and carry a printout of the confirmation, then there should be no problem in reality.

See my thread here where this was advised (although it was done before it expired)

Ok, well to be safe, i may renewal on NYE, and carry a print out of the receipt in my email box. Strange how this information is not available on the V11, and i could not find information on the DVLA website

Make sure your MOT will be valid when you want to renew.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Your vehicle tax runs out on 31 December 2016

On the front of the V11. What's to misunderstand?

"If you can't tax on time ... " on the back of the V11, could give you some leeway.

And insurance, if that's not stating the obvious.

having valid insurance is not a requisite of "taxing" a car , the insurance database is not checked , only an MOT if required
