supaguard paint treatment on new car
Has anyone any info on supaguard treatment and whether it is possible to have it done by anyone other than the dealer you buy new car from.
we are in process of buying new car, convertible, and would like the full treatment but dealer wants £269 for this and I want to know if we can push him any further on the price. Already got a good deal on price of car.
Any comments/info would be appreciated.

For metallics and lacquered finishes it's a waste of time, polish it twice a year with a decent wax at £10 and it will be as good.
Check on auction sites you can buy Supagard treatments for much much less if it's that product you want. The dealer will be making £200 on the deal.
You would be better of spending your money on products to put in your own garage from somewhere like this https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk
It's good exercise too.0 -
Only time this is worth it is if it's free. My car valeter uses left over polish to polish customers cars.0

I buy the Supaguard stuff that the main dealers use, pay bout 25 quid for it. Can sell it for anything upto 200 quid, depending on what mood i'm in...0

You can sometimes buy Supaguard, Autoglym Lifeshine and other products like this on eBay.
My mate is a car salesman and he hates flogging this stuff. The only time he recommends it is if you live in a flat and can never clean your car or if you are a lazy sales rep. because it's better than nothing.
If you are a conscientious owner and clean your car weekly and wax it from time to time then you don't need it.
When my mate sees the Supaguard/Lifeshine/Diamondbrite stickers on a car he knows that the owner is a sucker! The man without a signature.0 -
thanks for all the info, will have to make sure hubby makes time every sunday to wash and polish car, rather than pay extra, while I do ironing!0

Snakeoil in my opinion. I've seen similar products that claim to protect the new car shine for 10 years and you need never polish your car again. Absolute lies.
Nothing is better than regularly hosing down your car and giving it a polish and a wax with a quality product. And its bound to be cheaper than this "Supaguard" stuff - you're unlikely to spend £269 in polish and wax whilst you own the car so you'll be quids in.
The dealers only flog it because they get huge commission from it.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

So true. Of the £269, the salesman will get £20-30, the sales manager will get some money, the dealer principal will get some money, the dealership gets some money, the snake oil sales rep gets his share, the snake oil company gets some too. And the guy who spends 2 hours applying the stuff gets £5.50 per hour. The man without a signature.0 -
Couldn't have said it any better, vikingaero.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

I've never heard of this supaguard, does sound like snake oil. I'm off to investigate this stuff.
Ok back, here's an ebay search

Most of the stuff there is going for about £10 - just goes to show the huge mark up thats on these Diamondbrite/Supaguard type of products that these dealers flog.Lack of money is the root of all evil.
