I just did. Easy. No ID requirements. You're right - you can't trust them, but I'll take their money anyway.

Yes, it probably will when they deem 3% to be too generous!

So the bank offers you a few quid in interest and you happily provide all your personal details and allow a search of your credit file by them, which are two of the main institutions that you constantly preach against on here (banks and credit agencies).

It seems everyone has their price and yours seem very low haha :rotfl:
  • On a related issue here: the requirement is to have two active direct debits. What about if one, or maybe both of them, is what you might call "intermittent". For instance, a DD on a credit card account for which some months there won't be a payment. Do they still accept these?

It'll be in the T&Cs. If you are still talking LBG, then my experience is that a payment must be regularly taken. Rather awkward with irregular payments as you describe. Also with Council Tax where they take 10 payments per year. :(

Thanks. I'll check the T&Cs but I suspect it might be as you say. I'll set up a DD for minimum on one of my cards that I definitely use every month.

For the last 2? years you have been able to pay Council tax with 12 installments. That instruction is generally hidden in the small print on the back of your bill. You need to contact them before the new tax year otherwise the DD by default will be set for 10 payments (Crafty!!) You may be able to adjust the payments in the first month or two but not at this late stage. (Well, you could ask)

2 x DDs required to pay every month.
That nice supermarket internet saver comes in very handy in this case!! You know... "every penny counts"

My local council (London Borough of Havering) switched me to 12 monthly payments when I contacted them last month. They just recalculated to spread payments across the remainder of the financial year.

You don't even need to get into the detailed Ts & Cs to answer your question, it's answered on the product's front page that you linked to in your opening post! So, the requirement isn't "to have two active direct debits", it's to "pay at least two different Direct Debits from your account each calendar month".
