    Good morning,

Thank you nmlc for the thread,

TA my condolences to you and your family.

Even though I don't always post the names, you are all remembered in my prayers, especially the poorlies and those who have lost someone dear.

Still in bed, about to start the day by making breakfast, which is a novelty for me because it is always DH's job, but today he is unwell, poor love, raw sore throat and almost unable to speak. I was really worried last night in case this is part of his illness, but he thinks it is just a bad cold. It could not come at a worse time, we are travelling next Tuesday and he might get better (I hope he is fine before then!) but I am likely to be in line next to catch it it's always like that, it means I might have to travel while sick. I hope not.

Anyway, got to get cracking. The cleaner comes at 9 and at 10 I am meeting someone to plan dinners at the homeless shelter from January, I am cooking for half of them so I need to have 6-8 menus planned. I am on rota to do dinners and breakfasts, alternate weeks. Breakfasts are easy, fried egg and baked beans on toast.

Last night after dinner I did a big cat food shop, so my dear moggy is sorted while I am away, the lady who's coming to stay will not have to go out and buy anything for him. She is a Spanish friend of my sister's, in between jobs and studying English, so it is an easy exchange, convenient for both of us. She stays here for free and in exchange feeds my cat and looks after the house, I really did not want it empty in winter.

But last night I was so tired, I left all the boxes in the car, as well as the stock of toilet rolls. Another job for today, mustn't forget.

Afternoon is work with the children, then dinner.

Not made any plan for food, other than porridge for breakfast. Soup will probably feature in one or both main meals because it's easy on a sore throat.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Morning everyone,

Had a lovely day off yesterday but right back to it this morning. Up at 6am to go to the gym. New routine that my friend and I have vowed to keep, visit the gym every morning before work.

Not got any plans for tonight (don't need to go to the gym) so I think an early night is on the cards given I'll up and at it again tomorrow. I think I might wrap my presents that way I know where I stand.

    nmlc - Enjoy the wine!
TA - She's in a better place now. Hope you and the family and doing ok.
Jackie - Your DGS must be delighted. He'll love having some pocket money to spend.

  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one especially TA and LWW.

Bright morning, have the laundry from yesterday out plus the shower curtain which was going yellow at the bottom, we have very hard water here.

Mobile library came yesterday, this morning a message saying my books are due back......date due back 7/6/2016!!? so rang the library, they are going to sort it for us.

Quiet day today nothing on the cards just now, have brought in the coal and wood to start the fire, will not light it till after lunch. The heating is still on.

We are getting really bad at getting up, this morning we did not wake until 8.55 am told OH we will have to set the alarm, half the morning has gone before we have finished breakfast.

I want to wrap the parcels that are sitting on the table in the sewing room, I am also hoping to cut out the bits for the quilt I am going to make, should not take long, I just need to work out the numbers of each colour before I start. Then I can leave it on the bench and sew as and when I feel like it.

Our neighbour across the road is out of hospital, he is still on oxygen, so unable to go out. I have told B that I will take her shopping when she needs to go and OH will sit with her husband. I know just how she feels having gone through the same experience when OH came out of hospital in September.

Right, nothing else to report, so will go and check my bank account.....depressing, nice healthy balance last week, down to pennies this week now all the SO etc have gone out.

I woke up after ten a.m. I had a really good sleep though and was up late watching a film.

Brunch was a cheese roll and tea, soup in the freezer that I can defrost for later and going to have a mooch around the freezers to see what I fancy cooking. Unless I find something else to do with the carrots and leek in the fridge then I might make a fresh veg soup.

    TA

I am so sorry about your news and fingers crossed for test results.

    Hugs to all

Hello chums coffee morning went well and I got to chat to a delightful lady who is a new member of our U3A group. Then I did a small food shop that came to just under £10.00 which was even more delightful for me as I am eating my way down through the fridge at the moment.

Now at DD's stroking poorly pooch, who I agree, is like most lurchers run their steam off in two bursts of 20 minutes a day, then just laze around for the rest.
They seem to have sleeping down to a fine art, he is also a dreadful thief and will pinch anything he sees of the edible kind if its within his reach :):) but is quite a sweetie all the same .

DGS will be home shortly from school and chaos will reighn until they have had their snack .
DGS Jack is so pleased to have found this weekend job as he wants to take his young lady out at Christmas and treat her. She is a nice lass and they are like Romeo and Juliet :) his year younger brother Henry (15) just snorts and says girls are daft and he would rather play on his Xbox, his time will come no doubt :):)

Looking forward to tomorrows mini-meet in Faversham

    Cheers chums

Afternoon - well, I've done 'something close to nothing' (quote Prince) today! Sorted out a few bits and bobs but that's about all. Bringing in logs was the most energetic I got.

I've been not using the cooker or boiling water today - just put everything on my woodburner. After paying my electricity bill yesterday I wondered how much I could do without. A pan of water on the top of the stove boiled very quickly, just needed to bring teabag, cup and milk through to the living room, along with oven glove. Ditto my lunch time soup. Wasn't very effective with my crispy wraps with duck, should have had 20 mins in the oven, got 20 mins on a plate over a pan of boiling water. Hot but no texture!

I'm not going to resort to candles...just wanted to experiment as it seems daft to have the woodburner on and yet using something electric to boil water and heat up food. Saw an online video for what is called 'Christmas dinner in a mug' - :rotfl: mug lined with pancetta , chopped up sprouts in the bottom, grated potato, grated parsnip, pork and sage stuffing, turkey pieces and then topped with spinach. Pancetta covering the top and five mins in the ping machine. Not going to try it even if I was intrigued.

Yep, probably bored with doing nothing! :rotfl: Off to get out my book and put on the lights.

Evening all, great day at work today. Busy but not stressful like my previous part time work. It's such a tonic to be in such an environment given the past few weeks events.
Dinner is on the hob. We switched the menu plan around and had mac n cheese last night and it's chicken curry and rice tonight. DD is chef this evening!
Tomorrow would have been nephews 22nd birthday so I will be thinking of him as I go about my day. The youth club is having its Christmas party tomorrow so I will be throwing myself into organising party games and other silly stuff. must dig out my Christmas jumper.
Hope all the poorlies feel better soon, and hugs to those with poorly relatives. You are in my thoughts,
    Coxy xxx

Ps yay to jackies dgd Jack. Well done to him, great news!

    Evening all,

I has been a busy day, I was out quite early to take OH somewhere, then back to make stew for dinner, then to visit DD4 and her girls....I will miss them so much while we are away.

From DDs I went to see my cousin whose husband died 2 weeks ago.......she is very fragile but we talked most of the time about our childhood, her mother and my father were siblings and very close so we spent a lot of time together, it was good to go back all the years and go over all the things we had shared. She married only in her late 30s and at 40 had her only child, who lives beside her and is always there for her.

DS1 has just come in, dinner is ready and I am hungry.

Stay warm everbody and sleep well.
