iCloud problem

How do I see and remove documents from iCloud that do not show when I go into iCloud?
I have 4GB of documents on iCloud but when I look I can only see less than 500MB.
I need to get rid of the rest but how?
I have a Macbook Pro, 10.12.1

Are you sure they're on iCloud?

Do they show up in Finder?

If so highlight one of them and either right click and select Get Info or press Cmd and i and it will tell you where they are stored.

Also if you can see them in Finder you can delete them.

While typing another thought occurs to me.

Is it that iCloud is showing that you have 4GB of missing space with nothing to show?

If this is the case it's possible that whatever is using the space was saved under a different user ID?

I have two logins on my Macbook, one is all my personal stuff the other is work related. Both use the same internal disk and the same iCloud account but you can't see the personal stuff from the work user account and I can't see the work stuff from my private account.

Each account can only see the files for that account/login.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.

As it's the latest version (macOS Sierra) I wonder if the new feature to save your documents to iCloud is enabled.

Click the Apple logo in the top left hand corner>About this Mac>Storage>Manage... above your Macintosh HD status bar and under 'Recommendations' is 'Store in iCloud' turned on?

thanks for your comments. I have spent over two hours on the phone to Apple support, they ring you back, they have never seen this before and whilst on the phone no less than five of their top people tried to solve it. they now say they will keep on working on this and will have it solved in five days.
It was a bit unnerving allowing them to control my Macbook but I did go through security with them first!
It turns out that there is 4.6GB of 'documents' in the 'upper' bit of iCloud.
Lots of other gobbledegook and jargon went over my head.
