    My ears are burning :)
    • P2P - Jamesd is your go to person for all the best advice, I have used several of his insights to test my own assumptions and decision making processes. Some of his ideas won't work for me (VCT etc.), but like all good internet sources, you adopt the best and leave the rest :)
    • Happy to answer matched betting questions where they arise, but the dedicated forum is a much better source of up-to-date information. My story was that I got heavily involved in it and managed to make approximately £1,000/month for a year and a half. There were some mistakes along the way (including 3? £,£££ mistakes, 2 of which I couldn't salvage)!
    • I'm big into energy saving, recycling and most things 'green', also happy to discuss these. We have solar PV panels, a super-efficient condensing boiler and every light in the house is LED bar the rarely used flourescents under the kitchen units. Now looking at ways of reducing our waste after mastering the arcane art of recycling ;)

I should come clean and confess I have been reading your diary all year (2016) and invested in myself by taking the time to read it from start to date - really interesting and thought provoking although not all for me. There. Confession over.

I've discovered Tilly Tidying! I love it - Every time I look at my various accounts I tidy them up so that each balance has a 5 or a 0 at the end - I Tilly tidy those pennies into a redundant bank account I've now renamed 'Tilly Tidy Up A/D' (H@lifax lets me rename my accounts which is fun). I think I read that in one of your posts Suffolk Lass and am yet to discover where Her Royal Tilly Tidyness is hanging out - I like her style!

Do I need to start a diary I'm wondering or will this do? Not sure I'm in the right area as I'm a hybrid saver/mortgage free wannabe...

I love Tilly Tidying too; yes, not my idea but I have been doing it since the summer and have managed an extra few thousand in my Save £12k in 2016 challenge. Just about to post my final total and despite bailing out DH and DS my savings have smashed my revised target. I started that in 2016, like you at £6,000 and revised my target upwards when Tilly made my target look too conservative. I am going for £11k in 2017.

I think you should start a diary (says she who has not done so) - if only to track the path you follow. You will be surprised I feel sure. Both my cash-based regular savers have run their 12-month course this month and just considering adding the £250 for each to the S&S ISA in light of the limit increasing to £20,000 in April. I would then be relying on Tilly for my emergency (cash) fund top-ups and locking (sort of) our other savings away. Time to think over Christmas, I will sort out the issue when I have thought it through

If you do start a diary, do post a link on here as I don't go to that area much (just subscribe via other posts of interesting people really).

Yes Edinburgher your ears should be burning! I've picked up lots of tips from your diary. Whilst I'm a bit of a scaredy cat for matched betting I'm looking into reducing energy consumption and replacing lights for LEDs.

I've started a diary today! I'm hoping this is the link:

Hope you give it a peak and if so, see you there.....
