I have a applied for a re-mortgae through firstdirect myself, All seems to be going well until I have hit a stumbling block with the underwriters (I'm not sure my question here belongs on another or fresh thread) who have asked for a copy of an idemnity policy for the house because it's freehold. I moved into the house in 2009 with a mortage deal through one supplier for 2 years and then changed to a fixed for 5 with another after that...these were all done through a mortgage broker who i can no longer get hold of, Nothing was ever mention at any time about this as far as I can remember and I guess I have a weekend of wading through paperwork. On this occasion I thought I could organise a remortgage on my own as the fd deal was very good and I do not owe my current lender enough to get a new deal, I was obviously wrong.
Do you have to have this policy? Or is it a scam to flog me something.
  • This can take anywhere up to 2 months, when FD have great rates, their service suffers as they do not have the man power to deal with the level of applications. I strongly advise you to use an independent mortgage adviser who is able to recommend cost & time efficient mortgage providers. As well as this, they will be there to fight your battles when the banks are requesting silly information / documents, which happens more than you think! If you shop around you can often find independent mortgage advisers who charge little or no fees at all, depending on the mortgage size.

    Happy Friday!
