Availability and cost of Daihatsu parts

Hi all,

I recently had a low speed crash in my Perodua Myvi (2010, 50K miles), which has been deemed 'beyond economic repair' by my insurance. No suprises there. I quite like my little car, and would like to replace it with similar. Have found a rather nice Daihatsu Sirion (basically the same car with a few added extras) which would suit me perfectly. However, my Dad has thrown a spanner in the works with the news that Daihatsu stopped selling in the UK in 2011. He thinks this means parts will be hard to source and/or expensive if and when it requires repair. Is this actually likely to be an issue?

It's a bit of a nuisance for me to find an alternative, as we have a baby on the way, so should maybe consider something bigger (although my car is our second, so around town only mostly). I also have back problems, and find a lot of cars either difficult to get into, or just plain unconfortable! Hence why I'm quite keen to stick with something I know I like and suits me, although not if it's going to become impractical in just a couple of years...

...help? :)

Many Daihatsu/Perodua parts on these cars are Toyota basic ones. Even the engines are the same as far as I know.

Yes, body panels if needed might be a slight worry going further, but still I would not hesitate to buy.

They are very good cars (been in both a Myvi and a Sirion), reliable, though for me appeared slightly noisier than expected at speed.
  • You can get most parts from generic factors. I fitted a new thermostat to a 1999 daihatsu grand move a few weeks ago. As for dealer only parts if you google daihatsu you'll find they have a place in the UK that can order in any part you just have to wait for it to arrive from japan. As it goes they are as tough as old boots. Many parts are shared now as the last poster said but you would need to know the toyota part number e.g. the aygo, c1 and 107 are all made in toyotas factory and fitted with a daihatsu engine
