There are a number of problems with this TV, and there is a active community at AVforums.com discussing these issues:-
http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213625&page=34&pp=15
Please email the MEDION helpdesk quoting ref# 52237268, and list the attached issues:-
http://www.medion.de/mailing/service_uk.php
The product is not as advertised, and the more people that complain, the more likely Medion/Aldi are to resolve the issues.
There is a firmware update in Germany, where the Medion Customer support seems more urgent.
It is a good TV, but it needs these issues resolved, I could get my money back, but the are no other LCD's which come close at this price point.0 -

Cheers Rock.... I'm Busterdan btw from AVForums :j
Fingers crossed with Medion!
I have already called them on 01793 715715/698/699 or 08707270370 or (1800 992508 Eire) and logged my support issues under number 52299300
They can also be connect by Fax 01793 715716 and mail hotline@medion.co.uk
As Rocky said it is a great TV...and possibly the greatest (sub £1000 LCD) once these niggling issues are resolved!0 -

Where is an HDMI to DVI adaptor freely available ? Such a device would be illegal in most countries, as removing the HDCP encryption woud break DMCA type laws.
But I want one if you really know what you are talking about. If so, link please...(for example only of course - we all realise using one would be illegal)0 -
What does the HDTV mean and what does it do?
Is this TV reliable?0 -

I do not wish to go off topic, but the DVI port on the TEVION is HDCP enabled. You can use a DVD Player such as the Samsung HD745, with a DVI to DVI cable, but the Samsung HD850 requires a HDMI to DVI cable. The cables are freely available on ebay, they do not however strip the HDCP coding from the image.
A region hack for the samsungs does remove HDCP though!0 -

High Definition TV, basically Pal and NTSC are standard definition and have 576 interlaced and 480 interlaced lines respectfully. HD TV has 720 progressive lines (or 1080 interlaced, or 1080p (ps3 :j )). The Interlaced image takes 2Hz to refresh the Progressive image is refreshed every 1Hz and is normally better suited to LCD and Plasma displays.
The best anaolgy is it is the difference between the picture quality on a vga camera phone, and a 2 Mega Pixel one.
You will probably see a big HD TV publicity push by Sky soon, who will start broadcasting HDTV.
You need to look for the "HD Ready Logo" a lot of manufacturers are dumping standard definition plasma's and large LCD in the UK shops, be VERY carefully before buying one.
Check out the AVforum link of you need more information.0 -

Thanks but I dont care if this is HDCP compliant or not. I have a Pioneer MXE1 which is about the best screen currently available 43" and below but it doesnt include HDCP capability atm.
I found 2 sources of HDCP removers on my travels (HDCP capable DVI to VGA converters) one was $399 (prob plus VAT and duty) and the other was £295. If anyone can do any better please let me know.
What other DVD players can be HDCP hacked? eg can the Samsung HD850?
I cant justify the cost of an SDI modified DVD player and a scaler at the moment.
nb - isnt it stupid - another joke piece of copy protection that's broken before its even gone mass market. About time they realised that copy protection never works.0 -
Did you buy one of these TV's?
If so ensure that you check out the current issue list
HERE!!
Up to date information and questions about the TV, feedback from aldi/Medion are within THIS very long message thread but will be summarised soon.
As it stands at the moment, Aldi and Medion accept there are issues with this TV and Medion in Germany are carrying out what are apparently extensive tests.
Details of my latest conversation with Aldi/Medion are HERE
If you purchased this TV then I strongly recommend that at the very least contact the Medion UK helpline to register the fact that you are a concerned owner and are aware of the issues.... at least this way you can be given a call number (to track progress on any resolution) and possibly contacted by them should a fix/update be necessary to the TV.

AV forums thread...as of today...
