i am so cross...
last night i was trying to do couple of sheets of photocopying when the scanner on my lexmark all in one (£89 brand new approx 18months ago) decides to pack up...i tried all the usual things..turning it on and off...deleting and reinstalling the driver etc...it was making all the right noises except the blue scanner bar behind the glass seemed to have jammed permanantly in the middle of the glass rather then glide side to side..eventually a error message comes up...so i spent half the night checking out lexmarks technical and trouble shooting guides on line..when that didnt answer my problem i emailed the lexmark support team detailing my problem...they replied by an automated email indicating if my product is under warranty to fax them proof of purchase otherwise they could not help me any further...so i picked up the phone and rang the department who very much told me the same thing..once its outside the year warranty its not their obligation to help in what ever form or advice!!! and all he could suggest was to go and buy another one as its proberly cheaper than paying for a repair!! i wasnt expecting a replacement but just comfirmation of what the cause may of been.Damn you lexmark i will not buy another one of your products ever again!! Any one can recommend a good brand for printers...i was considering cannon and wondered if any one have any experience of them.

i can recommend canon i have got a cannon printer and its great. and the cartridges are cheap to buy as well, much cheaper than the rip off lexmark ones.
i havent had any expereince with their scanners though0 -
thats what i noticed was the price of cannons ink...though i also came to the conclusion as cannon prodominantly specialize in photograghy and high end cameras i gathered with their expertise.. if any of them could print out a damn good photo then surely cannon should...only thing i do wonder is because original cannons ink cartridges is cheap compared to lexmark does that mean they have shorter life span? Then again lexmarks life span arent nothing to write home about!0

We have always bought Epson printers. We have 2 in the house. In the last few years when they have come up with an error message saying'take to epson for repair'or similar-we have always just gone out and bought a new one as they are not that expensive.
Well, a few weeks ago my daughter's printer suddenly stopped working and within a week so did mine.
I was looking on ebay under'epson printer' thinking i would buy a 2nd hand one when i came across a fabulous product. For £5.99 we bought a disk which resets your printer back to its new state-just like that.We were sceptical at first but thought 'what the heck' it's only £5.99 and the write up was really good.
It was like magic-2 printers back to normal working order. Also it explains how the printer will tell you that it is out of ink when in fact it has plenty left in the cartridges.
I believe Epson(and prob other printer manufacturers) build in a finite life into these printers(say 5000 prints) and then they come up with an error message. You then either take it in for 'repair' or buy a new one-both cost the same money virtually.Of course it's not a repair at all-all they do is reset the printer-takes 5 mins and charge you £40.I think it's a con and maybe Watchdog should look into it.I want money..........that's what I want !!:j0
