Unhappy Eon customer

in Energy
After many years with Eon who have always given me competitive offers and good service I am going to leave them.
We are a very energy efficient household so I was surprised as to the differences in actual money costs for different options. The aim has been to ensure total bills are less than our solar FIT payments - something that was easily achieved.
A spreadsheet with the different options properly analysed is the only way to disentangle the offers. This yielded some surprising results for our usage pattern
I have found a gas only supplier with a 2 yr fix that is much cheaper than my current soon to end Eon v19 fix
Even better I have an electricity supplier on a 3 yr fix only marginally more expensive.
TBH I did have to do a lot of research and was surprised that there was a big benefit from using different suppliers for gas and electricity and also in a few cases looking directly at company offers via their websites rather than switching sites!
It is such a shame that Eon are not being proactive with their long term loyal customers and offering then market leading deals.

Perhaps they know more about the market than some of the smaller suppliers. I wouldn't be surprised if E.oN et al are just sitting back waiting for more of the smaller suppliers to drop out of the market. FWiW, I have just switched to a new entrant now that I know that my money is protected in the event of an insolvency. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Good morning Jackthedog,
I'm sorry as well that you've decided to leave us, it is a shame
I understand that you have to find the best deal for you and we couldn't offer you a better tariff this time.
Malc and I are always here to help though, if you need us, or do decide to come back in the future.
Thank you

I wouldn't call that a complaint as such, but rather E.On being particularly noncompetitive atm. They are supposedly announcing new products this week though (though too late for me as I switched away last week).0
-
EON have gone from SUPER competitive too SUPER noncompetitive atm loool
I Hope they fixup before my deal ends early next year . .0 -
Had to laugh this morning as I just got am email from them telling me my tariff was ending... with their cleverly worded highly uncompetitive offer of a replacement... sigh0

'jackthedog - very interested to know which gas co. is much cheaper than v19 - altho' I switched away from v19 it wasn't bad in my region for gas price -but I saved a lot more on leccy by moving tariffs.0

I used an offer from Better Energy. Standing charge much lower and unit rates slightly lower for my area than Eon v190

I switched my gas to Better Energy last week and was pleasantly surprised by the saving, especially considering the Better Energy tariff I picked is a 2-yr fix until December 2018.
My Eon v19 prices were: 21.903p standing charge and 2.634p per kWh (TCR = 3.15p).
My Better Energy prices are: 15.75p standing charge and 2.4465p per kWh (TCR = 2.91p).
Better Energy's December 2018 fix is no longer available, it has been replaced by a January 2019 fix which is almost £50 more expensive for me, so I'm glad I made the switch when I did.
The 2-Year fixed Electricity tariff I chose with M&S Energy on the other hand is considerably dearer than my current Eon v19 deal.
My Eon v19 prices were: 16.422p standing charge and 9.660p per kWh (TCR = 11.11p).
My M&S Energy prices are: 23.01p standing charge and 12.18p per kWh (TCR = 14.89p).
Which is approx 10% higher for me than the most competitive variable tariffs that are still available, but actually compares well to the 12-month fixes available (for me the M&S tariff is only one or two pounds a month dearer yet the fix is twice as long so better peace of mind, plus no exit fee so no cost to switching again if I wish to).
I've also finally succumbed to replacing most of the tungsten and halogen lighting in my house with LEDs, as the cost saving potential is now too great to ignore. I reckon it should knock between £200 and £300 off my annual electricity bill, thereby offsetting the price hike.0 -
Better Energy for gas would be a few quid more p.a than my current deal, but I can't get anywhere near the current EON prices for leccy and there is the £60 exit fee to consider.....0
-
no need to consider the exit fee as you can freely switch to another eon tariff without the exit charge.0
