Budget and build a savings pot at least £1000 to start with then aim for three months salary then keep building.
And if you are disciplined putting all expenses on a credit card which you clear each month is a good way of seeing exactly what you spend and then seeing where you can cut back to build those savings . The second you are even tempted to make less than the full balance payment cut the card up.0 -
Well done on being debt free, you must feel like such a weight has been lifted.
One of the things that I do each week is give myself 'pocket-money.' Its usually the same amount each week but I find its so much harder to part with physical cash than it is to put everything through contactless and I seem to think more about the things I need rather than what I want.
I also have a change jar where I put anything lower than 20p from my purse at the end of the week. Its usually just before Christmas when I take it to the bank to get it converted and it can be a couple of hundred pounds.
I think you will remain quite disciplined though especially if you know what you have gone through in the past and the thought of knowing how hard you worked to get to this point.
I can't wait until I am debt free as I sometimes feel like I take two steps forward and three steps back but I am remaining positive and can see some light at the end of the tunnel, my motto when I had my LBM was 'a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' and your single step was paying off your debt and now you are ready to travel that thousand miles debt free so enjoy and embrace it.0
