24" Smart TV/DVD recorder

Hello -

I am hoping to find some information for a lady who would like to replace an old 22" TV - it is her only TV and she has no space for a large TV. She would like a 24" Smart TV/DVD recorder. I have spent quite a while on 'Google' but, so far, I can only find one with a DVD player - it is in Argos: the Hitachi one at £159.99.

Does anyone know if a small Smart TV/DVD recorder exists, please? If this is not possible could the above one at Argos (Catalogue 246/6958) be connected to the lady's existing (older) DVD recorder. I wonder if doing this (if it is possible) would defeat the purpose of having the smart TV/DVD combination at all.

(She would need help to set it up as I'm not good enough technically.)

If you have any suggestions, or advice about her best options, I'd be glad to hear from you, thank you.

Whatever the decision I know we'd need 'professional' help for her to set everything up.

Never seen a tv with a dvd recorder built in although they may have existed. Even stand alone dvd recorders are getting rare.

The Argos one has a HDMI & scart sockets so should attach ok to the existing DVD recorder - I'd suggest this is the easiest/cheapest route. You could then then just look at a tv without a dvd player such as Argos

Is there a reason she needs to record to dvd? I still use them but DVD is dying in face of internet streaming.

Would a hard drive recorder be good enough for her (it's the modern equivalent of a VHS video recorder - loads to choose from and they're starting to be built into tv's now.

If she has internet, a firestick or a TV with 'Freeview plus' might also work for her

Thanks flashg67. I think it's a case of not knowing or understanding enough about all the advances and easy to use options. DVD is what she likes and is familiar with. She likes to record programmes and pass DVD copies to friends - they swap and share in this way.

It is a case of finding what is familiar and easy for her - in a limited space. I am not good with technology although maybe a bit more up to date than she is!

If she likes to record to dvd and her current recorder is working fine, then just buy a normal tv.

Just check the tv you buy has the same connectors (most will) and you'll be able to reconnect her up easily.

Thanks flashg67 - The links were good. I think the lady hoped to have fewer things to deal with (small and compact with fewer wires etc) and TV and dvd combined seemed ideal. I'm now sure, thanks to good help given here, that a separate tv and her existing dvd will be best. I now know about the different connectors etc.

I'll do more searching to suggest a suitable tv/arrangement for her. All this is getting me to learn too! I'm going to also learn a bit about Firesticks - out of interest for myself!
